Here's a shocker.....
Mediacom plans rate increase, digital enhancements | GazetteOnline.com - Cedar Rapids, Iowa City

main points, are that in CR they are giving away HD TV channels most of the 16 they currently offer. I noticed this a while ago on my on screen guide that all the normal channels that are there that offer HD say so next to the basic channel.

They are moving ESPN and ESPN II HD to the baisc area and lowering the price of the HD package. And also in the next 6 months they plan to have 48 HD channels.

ImOn is not offered everywhere in the city, specifically not where I live, plus their internet offering is not as good as mediacom imho. Not to mention their customer support is not open 24 hours a day or 7 days a week.

48 HD channels? Yeah right...if Mediacom does that they will increase their rates at a ridiculous level! No way will that happen in 6 months!

The 48 channels is phase one. I think they are also going start to offer cheaper internet to compete with Qwest slower DSL line price also. Example would maybe 1.5mb Down 256k up for $25 or something. I heard also that they are going to start getting agressive on thier phone service b/c they are finally getting things in order for it to be cheaper. This is from a friend that works at Mediacom and I also looked up a bunch of this information in their quarterly statements.
I don't care either way, but for the people that can't have a dish this seems like decent news. Especially people that are upset about the $50 internet prices.
The bottom line is...If they don't start doing this type of stuff they will lose business. You also have to look at the market they are in. We are not exactly huge.

I think there are pros and cons to each product. Just my opinion.

Orrrrr, you can get 96 HD channels on DirecTV for 9.99/month in addition to your regular package.

Actually in cedar rapids they have offered as DSL speed cable modem offer in the past and they still have it for $19.99 per month last I checked. They even offered free always on internet to cable suscribers before. It was twice the speed of dial up basically like a ISDN line.

I would guess that we are getting the Big 10 network now. They raised rates last year to justify the Sinclair deal. I hope that they get the 48 HD channels and a cheaper internet option.

That is like 25 channels that I ever watch. Ever. Maybe I will get lucky and the first 48 phase will be all those channels.
That is pretty much all I watch.

If I had a decent internet alternative in Ames I'd switch to DirecTV in a minute, Qwest DSL apparently doesn't offer they're highest speed where I live, which is across from Towers.

We don't have their highest speed and it is still WAY faster than what we were getting with Mediacom. Our Mediacom was always on the fritz too. No problems with our Qwest.

What speed do you have? I get the 1.5M from qwest, it is great. I know they offer 7mbps, but I don't know anyone that can get that.

You probably should have it looked at. I have nothing but nice things to say about Mediacom's Internet. I constantly get 7-7.5Mb Down plus its paid for by my Company. Its never down either, but I am sure everyone has different experiences.
