If he is really wanting to post with an agenda you won't have to coax it out of him. If he is just posting facts you then haven't attacked someone unnecessarily.
Really has nothing to do with an agenda, just wondering what he thought it meant. Since that was the question I originally asked.

I mean anyone with as obscure of an Iowa State avatar as Dwayne Crutchfield, has to have opinions on things. Most people on here have no idea who he was

I wonder how true that is. There are a lot more old people like me, and I assume you (1969), than most people think.

Not sure how much this kid has played or was going to play. I can't blame these guys for transferring if they can see there is little chance for them to play. It's just a whole new world out there with the portal and NIL. I will admit 19 guys in the portal seems like a lot. Hopefully it will be better in the future.

The problem in this particular situation is the safety position is full with AJ, and then young players he would be behind on the depth chart.

He’s a reserve that would have hardly made an impact this year. Hurts to lose a lot of depth pieces though.

CW has made this point many times, but it's a good one. Look at where the majority of these guys are ending up at. With the exception of Isheem (Ole Miss) & maaaaaaybe Joe Scates & Joey Ramos (Memphis & Arizona St, probably more lateral moves), everybody transferred to a far inferior program. In some cases all the way down to FCS

C. Bailey - UNI
Virdel Edwards - Hawaii
Jaquan Amos - Ball State
Corey Suttle - Miami (OH)
EZ Anderson - Campbell
Kym-Mani King & Aric Horn - Florida A&M
Daeshawn Davis - Southern
Datrone Young - Duke

Point being, these guys may be depth pieces, but with the elevated level of recruiting over the past few seasons, are most likely just being recruited over, which is a positive sign for the growth of the program.

Never heard of this guy.. Time to reward a hard working walk-on with a scholarship. I think there is a HUGE opportunity in the transfer era to carve out a walk-on to scholarship niche in the upper mid-west.

Those guys GRIND and WANT to be Cyclones. I'd love to get guys like the UNI tackle drafted last night as a PWO and clearly communicate that when transfers happen and you play well. We will put you on scholarship.
Basically like an internship program for a business or extended interview. If they don't work out, you aren't on the hook for anything other than food

I don't think even UNI thought he would turn out to be anywhere near what he did. That guy is a great story, mainly because nobody - even the school that gave him his only offer - saw it coming.

I’m curious as to how you feel a PWO at Iowa State would be enticing to kids with scholarship offers elsewhere?

Yep, I'd rather play game theory though and get 5 guys like him a year as walk-ons with good shots at a scholarship. You can't teach 6'7". Especially those smaller town kids who probably didn't have the off-season traing program like metro kids do. 7 days a week for working out and a dietician for every meal goes a LONG ways

I see it this way. You'd have to show a history of walk-ons going on scholarship with consistency.

UNI scholarship for 4-5 years < Iowa State scholarship for 3-4 years.
This isn’t 1980’s Nebraska anymore.

Plus UNI has put some dudes in the nfl too. The UNI kid in buffalo started as a o lineman as a rookie. They’ve had several nfl players over the years.

I appreciate your passion. I don’t know that it’s realistic.

I guess I was throwing it out as food for thought. There are almost no other programs that have that many in the portal. Agree that it could be a chance to upgrade but certainly points to some recruiting misses if more than 20% of your roster can transfer out and it’s no loss.

But yes, keep attacking my avatar choice.

It convinced Cook to walk-on here versus going to UNI. Won't be for everyone, but it feels a lot more sustainable than other options.

Derek Schweiger was another great walk-on.
