It will be a miracle if this team finishes above .500 let alone the NCAA Tournament

Agree. Everybody wants to be optimistic, but I was surprised to see CW still talking about the tournament after what we've seen.
Regarding Conditt's minutes- yes the minutes are increasing, but most coaches start their best players.

If KU finishes 5th in the league this year and gets a 6 seed nobody is going to be claiming that Self did one of his better coaching jobs, because that would be a team that under delivered looking at the pieces they have compared to the competition this season.

I'm laughing because when we (ISU) has even 1/2 the success and prestige as KU does in basketball then this is a fair comparison.

Listen. Many of us feel that Prohm just isn't that great of a coach. Some of you are grabbing at a few different things that he's done well and using that as your metric. Fine. I'm not changing my mind that Prohm isn't a very good X's and O's guy, though. I doubt any of us will.

I am curious though, how many of you that still think Prohm's a good coach will change your tune when we finish in the bottom two in the conference again?

Honest question, do you think Johnny Orr was a good coach?

Not speaking for the "camp," but summarizing for myself --

Prohm is not getting fired this year. Pollard's letter made that clear. Prohm is going to get (at least) next year. We might as well settle in and enjoy it.

Moving on from Prohm, either him leaving of his own accord or hiring a replacement, has a bevy of risks associated with it. You might hire a good coach, or you might hire a Greg McDermott (who was generally consider a good hire).

As much as you guys might not like it, success in basketball is not an Iowa State birthright. The McDermott tenure proves that. Hilton is a good home court but not a magical fortress that generates us wins for free. Prohm's bad 2018 team had three home wins over ranked foes; McD never had one. Zero. Blank. It was awful.

It could happen again.

So we have an uncertain future with the current regime, who at least proved they can do something and brought in talent in 2019, and an even wider cone of uncertainty if we move on from them (though not until at least March 2021).

We basically have to hope that Tyrese can be replaced, that Conditt and Bolton can play themselves into being stars, that it "clicks" for some of our young guards, and the recruiting class coming in has 2-3 immediate contributors in it. It could happen.

I do not particularly enjoy whining, so I am just going to ride with what we have. Pollard is the one ultimately making these calls, way above my pay grade, and his stance is clear. I am just a fan, so I am going to enjoy what is ultimately supposed to be fun.

Buckle in. This might take awhile.

Yea, that is really weird to me too. Already have 6 losses and bad ones to Florida A&M and Oregon State. Were ahead of all of McDermotts teams as far as losses at this point in the year and we have a worse loss than any of those 4 teams.

I mean I don't remember Fred getting criticized for getting a team with Royce, Scottie, Chris Allen, Ejim, Babb and Tyrus an 8 seed. Lol cmon

Please don't get me wrong; I completely agree with the point you are making here, but in all fairness that was the first team in something like 7 seasons to make it back to the NCAA tournament. I personally would have been just fine with a 12 seed that year.

I know nothing of Orr's coaching. Here created Hilton Magic, so that cool. Didn't he have a losing record in conference? I see that he was just above .500 here. I'd say that makes him an okay coach. Certainly not anything special, outside of the ability to win games at home.

With all that talent you would have been fine with a 12 seed but people aren't happy with a 6 seed last year. Crazy

Oh, yeah. Pollard is going to ride the Prohm train all the way to the scene of the crash. Any doubts I had about that were totally erased with last week's letter.

Correct. Orr who many consider a good coach was 79-117 in conference (only had 2 winning conference seasons in 14 years). On top of that he finished in the bottom half of an 8 team league (5th-8th) 8 times in 14 years.

My point is that many people have this inflated view of ISU's basketball history but when you look at the actual numbers it tells a different story. We all want ISU to achieve success, but we should also try to be realistic when charting out what success at ISU is.

I didn’t watch the game Saturday or commented on this forum Based off what happened in that game because I figured doing Uber and going to a strip club in Houston was less heartbreaking than watching our basketball team lose yet again. I don’t believe in pointing fingers and calling out these 21 yrs olds, but is questioning Coach Prohm inability to take this program to where it deserves(legit contender as Fred left it) also qualifies as being a bad fan? I do think ISU is too big of a level for Coach Prohm and we are not getting any better. Nobody wants to see another person lose a job, but we donate money to this institution as alumni and fans and we as fans, in return expect a good or decent product and that’s on coaching. Coach Prohm just can’t get it done at ISU. I’m saying all this because I actually donate money like many of you to athletic department and not trying to take a shot at CSP. Sorry if I come out as a bad fan.
NB: Coach Campbell is GOD. I love that man like he’s lil my brother. Dude is bringing happiness in my living room. He is money. Have a great week y’all.

I think after our status was raised under Fred, the history piece starts to quickly lose the ability to be relevant. The reason is that the here and now matters. Same goes with the football program. Look at how unhappy people are with a 7 win season after back to back 8 win seasons. Right or wrong, I think that's all that matters.
