I am concerned that next year will be disappointing without them. I don't see us challenging for a conference title without them, unless several players REALLY REALLY step up. Someone cheer me up and convince me I am wrong.

You are right and if I were you I would abandon all hope beginning with never coming to this board again.

For **** sake...they are our best players on that side of the ball. No **** the offense runs through them.

Kempt looked at Lazard every time he dropped back last year, and threw it to him more times than he didn’t.

You put the ball in your best player’s hands. In every sport. At every level.

I think they should, and I would advise both, to enter the draft next year.

This program, under Campbell, will be fine.

I thought the same thing about Allen Lazard last year. How would we replace that dude? Then Hakeem Butler rose to the occasion this year. Someone will make the most of their opportunity next year and rise up. Just because we don't know the names of some of them yet doesn't mean it won't happen.

they are the focus of the offense, next year other guys will be the focus.

Other teams lose guys as well, to be successful year in and year out, you groom players to take the place of those that are leaving.

QB is still the most import position on the field, and by all accounts ISU could have their best QB since Seneca Wallace,

I am pretty excited about next year and given what they have on defense, should be another great season.

Holy cow dude... get a grip.

If a basketball team loses 60 points a game in scoring due to player graduation, does that mean they only score 20 points a game the next year? Somebody else always steps up. We'll be fine.

I'm torn. I want them to do well and maximize their earning potential... but if they come back 2019 will be something special.... that is what I wish for as a lifelong fan...

I bet you would be really fun to party with. I mean I see nothing you ever say as positive or anything. All you do is thrive on negativity and conflict, you're a miserable human being.

Once you find a good, reliable weapon, its difficult to use fully the other weapons in your arsenal.

Not sure if we have anything like Butler if he leaves, but I think there are a lot of receivers with a lot of talent. No Butler will just mean a different balance to get people open.

No Montgomery? If this happens, then I'm sure Breece Hall and Jirehl Brock will be a great tandem. And we still have a couple of upper class-men who haven't yet had the chance to be the feature back. After all, we didn't use Mike Warren this year, yet as a freshman he ran for over 1300 yards (why he got ZERO carries this year is still what I consider to be a huge failure on the part of Matt Campbell, but its his ball club).

Anyway, the point is that there is some great talent coming into the program (with perhaps some better O-Line play ~please!~). No need to panic in the absence of Butler and/or Montgomery.

We lost Lazard after last season and the offense came back even better. Sure, Butler is a more dynamic receiver than Lazard, but there will be guys ready to stop up. Replacing Montgomery is an extremely difficult task, but the offense will be good. Purdy was only a freshman and unless he pulls a Bret Meyer and declines after his freshman year, the offense will still be great. Defense will be top ten in the nation next year. ISU will easily finish top four in the conference again next year and has a chance at giving Oklahoma and Texas a run for the conference. Just believe.

Come on our team will be better next year either way. We’re playing more underclassman now than ever before. CMC is bringing in talented recruiting classes like we haven’t seen in a long time. We have quality depth throughout the roster. The future of ISU football is bright, as long as Campbell is our coach.

"as long as Campbell is our coach".......That sez it all my friends and hang onto your hat and hope that CMC stays for another ten years or so...We are on the cusp of the best football in my lifetime and ISU fans need to support Matt Campbell and this team by buying season tix and filling the stadium.....

1st Iowa State game Oct 1962 @ Lincoln Nebraska.......

Mike Warren didnt play because he has Fumblitis and Matt Campbell saw the tape of the KState game where Warren fumbled and opened the door to another agonizing loss to well Old Man...HellsBells Ancient billybobsnyder...thats why Mike Warren did NOT PLAY...tis no mystery

Brock Purdy changed the trajectory of the season. Remember the 1-3 start?

It’s all about O line next year. ISU has playmakers otherwise

They are our best two players, you go to them in big games. I think we will be better next year with or without them. Of course I would love them back, but two 4 star RB and a stable of solid receivers in the waiting has me excited either way.

I get the concern, but some of their loss can be negated by the OL playing better (stupid penalties, better blocking, etc). Going into the season with a definite #1 QB will make a ton of difference. Purdy should improve.

Plus we will get some production from some guys that either aren't here yet, or haven't shown much to this date. That always happens.

This program is capable of maintaining or moving forward, but it will take a lot of effort from everyone in the offseason to replace DM and Butler.

Way up there
We'll have a GREAT defense next season, a QB that went 7-2 as a true FR, a stable of RB's, two returning starters at WR, two all big 12 TE's to help take some of the pressure off of the WR's and a solid kicking/return game. The OL is the only thing we're waiting on, this coaching staff has talked about rebuilding and developing that unit since they got to Ames, hopefully next season we see it finally all come together.

The last two years we've won 16 games and been playing for a CCG spot in mid November, that was with an average at best OL. This program is in good shape and is much more than these two great players. We'll miss them but the cupboard isn't bare by any means.

I get the thinking, however wasn't Lazard viewed the same way a year ago? A year ago Butler was the bad hands guy with potential. It will suck to probably lose two junior stars from the same team but maybe if we hire an offensive coordinator (what P5 team operates without one?) and improve the OL we will be okay. It's not like we lead the Big 12 in scoring or anything even with these guys.
