Very true. I was not used to the interest in college sports when I came to this state for school. Everything in Minnesota sports-wise revolves around the Vikings.

Because Tubby Smith is one of the best in the business. Greg Mcdermott is just another coach. Harrison would probably learn more from Tubby than Mcdermott. Plus Minneapolis has alot more to offer, rather than Ames. Just saying

Longhorns, do you really stand by your statement that Harrison could learn more from Tubby than McDermott, when a potential first round NBA draft pick decided to stay at ISU?
He (Brackins) could go anywhere, transfer to any college, or make millions of dollars in the NBA if he left, and yet he chose to stay in Ames, Iowa. Don't you think that Brackins thinks and feels he still has much to learn from McDermott? I think I saw a lot of development this year by Brackins, and apparently he feels he can learn even more from him!

If you and others feel compelled to extoll the virtues of any other school or city other than ISU and Ames, do you have to do it at the expense of our coach, or coaching staff, team members, or the environment? I am getting to the point that when something positive is posted about our school, team, or coaching staff, I am amazed.
Why don't you do your Minnesota, Duke, Kansas, USC, and UNC salesmanship on their boards? Run down our coach, style of play, and environment on their dime, will you please?

Pardon me, but I think potential ISU players want to know what our culture is like, and how proud we are of our team and the coaching staff, hence the name Cyclone Fanatic, not the Golden Gopher Gallery or Tubby's Tittilated Teamster's or some such nonesense. By the way, Ames was certainly good enough for thousands of us on this board, and we could have gone elsewhere for an education and cultural experiences.

My guess is, you aren't Cyclone fans at all. I choose not be a part of anything that is detrimental to the ISU athletic teams and our school in general. Please do your self-serving peddling elsewhere.

I guess the ignore list is a good thing.

You list a bunch of good coaches, but you do not make any kind of a compelling argument as to why he isn't a top 10 coach.

I'd like to know why you think Dixon is better than Tubby:

• Dixon has taken Pitt to the Dance 6 times
  • 1 Elite Eight (this year)
  • 2 sweet 16s
  • 2 second round exits
  • 1 first round exit.
• From 1993 to 1997 Tubby
  • Took Tulsa to 2 Sweet 16s
  • Georgia to 1 Sweet 16, and 1 First Round Exit
• Then Tubby took over at Kentucky where he took them to:
  • 1 NCAA Championship
  • 3 Elite 8s
  • 2 Sweet 16s
  • 4 2nd Round Exits

All of what Tubby did above looks better to me than what Dixon has done.

From 1993 to 2007, he took 3 different programs to the NCAA tournament each year. Since taking over at MN, he completely rebuilt the program practically overnight, and has that team in NCAA form.

In 2007 they went to the NIT, but in 15 years to take 4 different programs to the NCAA tournament is pretty damn good.

I don't really get why you think Donovan is necessarily better. Yes he has 2 NCAA championships and maybe that's why, but Tubby has a better winning percentage and took his teams to the tournament more years in a row. If anything at all, they are tied.

Mark Few's track record is good but not mind blowingly good either: 4 Sweet 16s, 3 2nd round exits, and 3 first round exits.

My point is that your list is so debatable and it's silly the way it was posted.

You've got Coach K, Izzo, Calhoun, Boeheim, probably Petino, and maybe Calipari and Donovan, fine. The other guys are sort of bunched together IMO, and there are still 3 spots left in the Top 10.

There are plenty of good reasons for Harrison to come to Ames.

It's not an easy of choice as many of you are making. I practically grew up on the University of Minnesota campus having my dad as a professor there. We lived close to campus so he could walk to work everyday. I hung out at many of the college hangouts (besides just straight up bars) during high school. I can tell you that when I was choosing college, I didn't consider Minnesota at all. I wanted to get out of town, go somewhere else, and try something different.

I do not know what it's like to grow up in Ames, but I can imagine you get tired of ISU, and perhaps take it for granted. I know I did with the U of Minnesota and Minneapolis as a whole. How many of you took many of the positive things your hometown offered and didn't realize it until you moved away?

I think some of us are trying to point out why other choices may look more attractive. He isn't going to be disloyal to Ames if he doesn't go to ISU. He's been repping Ames and playing here, as opposed to going to some prep school somewhere. I'm sure many where trying to give him advice to move somewhere he'd be noticed, and you have to admit it's pretty awesome to get noticed like this playing in the middle of Iowa.

Is DG disloyal to Milwaukee, and Brackins disloyal to Palmdale since they came to ISU?

I know it's kind of fun to follow someone locally who is getting this kind of attention. I'm curious where he'll end up. As an ISU fan, I hope it's here, but as a person I realize he's going to do what's best for him...

If my previous post left the impression that this will be
an easy decision for Harrison to make, then I owe someone an apology.
The point I was attempting to make is that you can say whatever you want about whomever and wherever, I just don't think it is necessary to do it at the expense of our coach, players, style of play, or the environment.
If McDermott is such an inadequate coach and recruiter, how is it that he was able to recruit 3 potential NBA starters?
How is it that Brackins chose to stay here when he could have have gone anywhere else to play basketball, including the NBA, but chose to stay in Ames Iowa, and have McDermott teach him?
McDermott is known as an excellent "big man" instructor.
By the way Mpls, your point about DG and Brackins would be valid if there was a concerted effort by Cyclone fans to downgrade the coach or style of play on Milwaukee's or Palmdale's message boards to persuade them to come here, and I don't believe that was the case.
To me, this has nothing to do with "being disloyal" in any way, shape, or fashion.
What it clearly has to do with, is being tactful.

As an ISU fan, I want him to come here obviously. As someone who once had dreams to play college sports, having legendary coaches to want you is something that you dream of, and would be difficult to pass up.
