I hate to break this to everyone, but ISU offers nothing to a major conference. We are not good in any major sports, we do not have a lot of revenue, and have almost nothing to offer for a TV audience. ISU is a mid major school that is in a major conference for now.

Is there anything positive? I am hopeful for bball in the future, but for a few years it is going to be terrible. In football I think we will be a little better, but the schedule over the next 2 years is not going to produce a lot of wins. I don't see a bowl or NIT/NCAA appearance for ISU in the next 3 years. I hope I am wrong.

We would be bottom dwellers in any major conference in the only 2 sports that matter.

In football, we won 1 of the 3 games against Big 12 south teams last year. We beat 3 of 4 non-conference opponents last year. Assuming we win zero against the Big 12 south and only 2 of 4 against non-conference opponents, we just need to beat KU and KSU to still go bowling.

I don't buy the "schedule is SOOOOOOO hard, we'll never do anything!!!1!!!!!" argument. If that's our attitude, then yes we belong in a mid-major conference.

Ok, explain to me how not being aligned with anyone is good for ISU? Will ISU get a sweetheart deal on NBC like ND has? Who do we play in football? Is USC going to schedule us as a non conf opponent? How many major schools are going to schedule us for home and homes? Iowa and who else?

I wasn't being very clear and for that I apologize. Those that think the fact the Nebbie and Mizzou are leaving is this acopalypse for ISU are being drama queens. Those that think ISU is going to be a "mid-major" or an independent are crazy. There is a reason MSU fans are laughing.

I have no doubt Iowa State will be in an automatic qualifier conference. It's doubtful that said future conference will have the same prestige as the present day B12 but we'll be ok.

For the beginning of the season I would imagine anyone who is interested in a decent opponent for conference play, but not a guaranteed loss. Someone that doesn't want a team that will drop their Strength of Schedule.

Notre Dame very well might.

We got a home and home from places like Army and the other academies.

Missouri or Minnesota might be interested from a fan interest perspective. I would guess any of the old big 8 schools would be interested once in a while (not necessarily yearly).

Someone like Boise State who needs to get a boost from non conference games. They currently have Wyoming and Virginia Tech scheduled for non-conf. I'd say we'd fall in that range.

We don't get a sweetheart deal like ND has because we don't have the national fanbase, however we would also not have to share our TV revenue with a conference when we do make the TV. Look at what FCS schools get for coming to play somewhere big.

The fact is it's just too hard to know what would happen unless you tried it. I don't believe it would be the guaranteed death sentence you are making it out to be. I also don't think it's a guaranteed success story.

Actually, I have red hair and have lived with my step-mother since the age of 3. She has always loved me unconditionaly and supported me in everything I do. I couldn't ask for a better step-mom. I'm 36 now and she still doesn't charge me rent, screen my calls, nor does she make me get up early on the weekends.

It's difficult enough to get TV revenue for our games when we're in a conference. Anything televised on Mediacom, FCS or CTN for MBB and FB net us no money. We only had four regular season games that would have provided us any TV money last year: Iowa - FSN, Kansas - VS., Nebraska - FSN, Oklahoma State - ABC.

Unless you think our football or basketball programs could sign guaranteed deals for television, we'd lose a LOT of money coming in. Not to mention the money we do get from the limited revenue sharing that takes place in the Big 12.

I think the people going doom and gloom about the whole thing are overreacting. I'm confident ISU will end up in a BCS auto qualifying league no matter what happens. That said if Nebraska and Missouri left it would be a bit of a blow due to leaving us fairly geographically isolated from the rest of the Big 12.

Without a bowl playoff system ISU will be fine. With the bowl system we have now ISU will do just fine. I wanted to start another thread but it would be merged anyway.
