Does the selection committee take into account road and neutral court record for seeding? If so, is it a big factor? Just curious, because it certainly isn't going to help us. TIA for any help.

Yep. It's probably one of the top things they look at. Luckily for us they also look at who you played on the road too, so that's something.

Right now, Iowa State is the only projected Top 4 seed on ESPN's bracketology that has a losing record on the road. I don't think this nitty gritty report is up to the moment accurate, probably through games on Sunday: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/nitty That said, a good road record on it's own means very little if there aren't any wins over good teams on it.

1. Who did you beat and where did you beat them? 2. Who did you lose to and where did you lose to them? 3. Were there any key injuries to players for you or your opponents in those wins and losses? 4. Other metrics such as RPI, SoS, NCSoS, etc...

It matters but you can certainly overcome it. If we win @ Kansas State and @ TCU we will likely be seen in better light than last year because our road W's this year would be much more impressive than last year. Our overall record, however, is weaker.

Wait, that link has Gonzaga as #2 SOS, Northern Iowa #3, and Kansas at #12? Am I reading that right?

I mean, that just can't be right.

It's more accurate to look at the column to the right of SOS, OSOS ... is more accurate. I have no idea what OSOS means and why ESPN's nitty gritty presents info that way.

(KU's SOS should be 1 or close to it, UNC 3, Gonzaga high 70s, UNI's is in the 100s)

OSOS more closely resembles this:

Yes. Yes.

Iowa State had a 4-6 record in road games last season... Granted that was balanced with a 7-0 neutral site record.

For comparison ISU is 2-4 in road games this year and 2-2 at neutral sites so far. Lots of opportunities to make up some ground coming up against competition that isn't at the KU or OU level though.

And you also need to factor in ISU being undefeated at Hilton this year. Last year we did lose a game at home.

I think you know this but ISU's road losses are to some really good teams minus freaking Tech. And we have 2 good road wins as well to counter act losses to KU, OU, BU and Tech on the road.

USC is probably close to a bad loss on a neutral court, Maryland is likely not a factor imo.

Iowa State can have a less-than-stellar road record and still be seeded OK, considering the quality wins already under the belt. It’s not so much a matter of how much road/neutral wins “count” for the seeding, but how it affects the overall resume. Without at least a few semi-relevant road wins, the record won't be as good, seeding may drop to a 4 and then odds of getting advantageous subregion placement go way down.

So we need at least serviceable results away from home down the stretch to secure a 3 and (probably) get Omaha. That isn't Hilton, but for a home-heavy team like this, it makes the the first weekend a better situation.
