I just noticed that NDSU recieved 3 votes in the AP Poll. Has anyone ever seen an FCS school recieve votes in an "FBS" top 25? I wonder who voted for them?

You can thank Appalachian State:

Appalachian State was unanimously selected as the No. 1 team in the FCS football poll in the week after their victory against Michigan. Although several voters in the AP Poll stated they would like to vote for Appalachian State, the Mountaineers were ineligible to receive votes because the poll was only limited to FBS teams; in response, the AP amended their policy the following week to allow FCS teams to receive votes in the AP Poll.[SUP][28][/SUP] The Mountaineers received 19 points in the week 3 edition of the AP Poll[SUP][29][/SUP] and 5 points in the week 4 edition of the AP Poll.[SUP][30][/SUP]

I thought I recalled UNI receiving votes once. Could be wrong.

Has happened before. FCS schools have been able to be included in the rankings for a few years now. I don't see the point, but nonetheless they can.

It happens every year when some FCS school knocks off a bigger program. Usually it has to be over more of a name (Think James Madison University getting votes after beating Virginia Tech a few years back) but in NDSU's case, it obviously doesn't even have to be that big of a win over an FBS school. They've very successfully built their brand at this point.

I was really surpised they had GameDay again this past week-end. Really ESPN? Last year was a great idea, but to go back again this year when there are over 150 D1 schools you have never been to begs the question-why?

It makes some sense to visit the defending FCS champs on a weekend with a weak slate of games. That being said, I'm surprised they didn't head to South Carolina-Georgia. Is there some other big match-up for either of those schools that they're waiting for?

Sagarin has the MVC ranked higher than some divisions of lower FBS conferences. Undefeated MAC and CUSA teams get ranked all the time so I don't know how someone can say ndsu can't be. Unfortunate they can't have a late season FBS game too but there's something to be said for running through a multi game playoff compared to winning one bowl.

I'd say winning the fcs playoff is more impressive than a low level bowl against a MAC, cUSA, or sun belt team but not comperable at all to a major bowl win. I would compare NDSU to NIU last year, they legitimately were fringe top 25 but got blasted in a big time bowl. There's a line between the NIU, NDSU and Tulane seasons were they run the table against a weak slate and say that Utah team a decade ago who blew out all 13 opponents including #3 ranked Alabama in a bowl.

I dont really see where they deserve it. If say some big 10 school played that schedule and were 3-0 right now, they wouldnt get votes. Heck even if ISU was 3-0 right now we prob wouldnt get votes.

They already went to South Carolina. Give it to them 2 out of the 3 weeks? No thank you.

I would've guessed Washington State or Rutgers. Honestly if Iowa State took care of business against NDSU and beat KSU, I wouldn't have been surprised if they chose Iowa. But that's neither here nor there.

They did a few years back. I think it was 2007 when they beat ISU, went undefeated in the regular season and were ranked #1 in the FCS. I believe they received a couple AP Top 25 votes in late November.
