In the B1G West no less!

Riley just wasn't a winning coach. His record at Oregon St was so-so at best - good years to be sure, but then the last 5 years overall he was under .500. Maybe he lost his fire, it happens.

Still surprised they hired a guy that wasn't hammering out W's consistently.

I think they wanted to go for a personality that was the opposite of Pelini and hoped that with Nebraska resources that he would have more of his good years than his bad.

I'm pretty sure I remember when he was hired that Riley supporters were saying, "Look at the good things he did at a place like Oregon State. With the resources of Nebraska he should be able to do much more!"

And he was even able to bring in higher rated recruits, but it seems like his scheme did not work the way he planned and his coaching hires did not pan out either.

They should have seriously looked at Craig Bohl at the time. Maybe even Tressel.

Should have from a pure coaching standpoint. But Bohl would have never moved the needle like Frost is doing now. Nebraska has an inflated opinion of itself despite not having comparable success since 2000.

Tressel still has the stain of tOSU scandal on him. He would be easier to accept from a pure coaching standpoint though.

Behavior issues with their best players? Step 1 of recreating 90's Nebraska football complete.
Now, that's not nice. When has Nebraska ever had behavioural issues with their players? I think you would be hard pressed to give an example, other than Johnny Rogers, Lawrence Phillips, Scott Baldwin, Thunder Collins, the Peter brothers, Tyrone Williams, Ndomakung Suh.....

As of last week, Nebraska was still long on the number of scholarship players allowed. Therefore, players that are perceived to not quite fit the game plan are going be “encouraged” to find a new home.

I do think things will change quickly by year #2 under Frost. They do have some athletes and Riley did have strong recruiting classes. Just not good coaching or positional development.
