SDSU did that several times, having the return guy watch the punt land in front of him and then just … letting it roll. You have to get the fair catch on those.
90% of the success of the Iowa punt team was caused by terrible planning and execution by SDSU.

Teams rarely do this, but what about sending two returners back? One deeper and one shorter. That way there is much less chance of a punt bouncing for an extra 15-20 yards. You absolutely can't let the punt hit the ground unless it is inside the 5 yard line.

I think we should run punt block with two returners every time. We never return them a way just make sure they are caught.

Maybe another season but I don't like them installing it this week.

Keep it simple if there's not a negative especially if it's soecial teams and ISU.

Also, the returner absolutely has to field this punt. If you don’t think one guy can cover the width of the field you have to put two back like KCClone1 suggests.

Yeah.... that punt absolutely HAS to be fair caught. It landed on the 15 yd line..... that would be 100x better than getting it on the 1.

In order to win Saturday, I feel like we have to neutralize Iowa's biggest threat. He hurt us last year, and is the main reason they eked out a win last week.

I would like to see us bring some token punt block pressure. SDSU was content to just let him sit back there and calculate his punts. If Taylor doesn't sense any pressure, he a will hold the ball and wait for his coverage to get a running start. Why let them do that?

I would like to see us always bring 2 or 3 rushers from his right side. Take away that rugby nonsense and put some heat on him. Yeah, we risk taking a 15 yard penalty. So what?. Iowa's offense likely isn't going anywhere. Those same 15 yards would have shown up in the punt if gave him all the time he wanted.

10 of Iowa's 60 offensive snaps are going to be punts. We can't just concede those to them.

so what? you don't get the ball back and they keep the ball. ISU's offense can't score points when they don't have the ball. furthermore they are then 15 yards closer to pinning ISU inside its own 5 yard line.

There's also more chances petrash will throw in int or fumble it

SDSU wins that game if Iowa had average punting, it was the only difference. Their D was every bit as dominant as Iowa’s, they just had worse field position.

Totally agree we need to go all out on block or return. I think vs most teams the punt block attempt isn’t worth the penalty risk, but this is the exception when the guy was their week one mvp and easily mvp last time we played.

I was listening on the radio but I believe they punted from the 36 and an Iowa player caught it in the air at the 2. 90% of the time I’d say idiotic to punt from 36 but when you consistently get a result like that it makes sense.

So you kind of have to ignore the avg and look at the results, that 34 yard punt is unbelievable to have that accuracy and hang time. He seemed to be just as 1st team all American yesterday as he was vs us a year ago.

The best way to stop him from pinning ISU deep is to keep Iowa from getting first downs. Last year they barely made several first downs that allowed them to change field position on ISU. Need to make the plays to stop that and need to at least get a couple first down on offense to keep from losing so much ground on the exchange of punts.

All out block everytime, you are bound to get one. Plus he may shank one under heavy pressure

Someone/coach will figure out how to slow down (his) effectiveness. BUT I doubt it will be Campbell.

WI did last year when Iowa all of the sudden magically fumbled a punt or two.

Problem is that our bend but don't break fails here.

Take away LaPorta and they’re completely effed because Petras can’t complete anything past 10 yards in coverage
Well that’s going to be a problem because Heacocks first half vanilla coverage. They will pickup everything underneath.
