I agree that we'll have a sort of hybrid with Morgan being able to easily drop or rush at his position. It'll be like running the Nickel without having to move Benton to the nickel spot and bring in Brackens at safety.

Now that you say that I wonder if the staff had that in mind when making the change. Losing Brooks makes us thinner at safety. Having Morgan and Broomfield as the full time hybrids means less toll on the safeties by not having to shuffle Benton.

Way up there
The RB situation seems pretty muddled beyond SJ. I'm interested to see how Hollis and White come along. By all accounts it was a toss up to redshirt Hollis or Johnson last year, and White seems to have had a good camp. I'd like to see those guys perform well enough to allow us to RS the new guys.

I thought Ronny Nelson was the second coming of Jason Berryman except he has 10 bucks and his own cell phone. He must not be progressing.

Even though hes a true freshman, I wouldn't mind seeing Miller out there at LB. But I am pretty interested in seeing Morton if they do use him as an attacking role. I also notice hes the backup nickle back. I've heard a lot of good things about Brackins at safety, so I'm assuming when we do go nickle Benton slides over and Brackins comes in?

Also even with Horne as the "backup", he might still be starting if Reynolds can't play right away. And I have no doubt if that happens he isn't coming out of the starting lineup. But if not they will still use more than just those top three WR's anyways.
You have heard what, that he is running with the 2s? That is still a ways from starting. This is the nickel package you are seeing IMO. Have you seen Deon Broomfield on the gridiron? I would take him over Brackens in a heartbeat. The kid has the best physical tools of the safeties. You can see it on special teams last year.He seemed to have trouble with the mental aspect, but if he has that figured, out, I would not be surprised if he has a great season.

I'm bummed to not see Rony Nelson higher... I got the impression he was going to play this year and was a stud.

If you were paying attention to the talk since last year, you heard that he's pretty much just a pass rush specialist. Not sure if he will round out to be a starter or not. Maybe we will see him situationally this year. Who knows.

I would not be so quick to write off Rony Nelson until he gets a chance to show either what he can or can't do on the field.

I'm more interested to see if Willie Scott can live up to the coaching staff's comments about his play making ability.

I expect that both of these guys along with Patrick Neal will provide better depth at DE than what we've had since the days when Earl Bruce had solid depth on his roster.

The key is that none of these guys can probably be productive for 50 or 60 snaps in a game. I think that they can make some things happen by going all out for 15-25 plays a game.

its unfortunate that we almost never get far enough ahead where we know a team is going to pass then. we could let him tee off on the QB. but generally we are the team that is behind.

Tiller, Jennert, Brooks...not as specific losses, but as a trend developing. i hope that's not the case.

Aside from Tiller and Reynolds, the rest of the guys who are out haven't played much if at all. Hurts depth somewhat but I wouldn't be too concerned. I'll be surprised if Reynolds doesn't play v. UNI. And hey, we get another big body DT that will provide some depth as we get into the season.

I thought Ronny Nelson was the second coming of Jason Berryman except he has 10 bucks and his own cell phone. He must not be progressing.

Go Cyclones - Nelson waiting for his chance

I don't recall Nelson ever being referred to as the second coming of Berryman, just a sizeable DE to throw in the mix.

Then you should reread the thread when we got him and when he was declared inelibible. He was thought to be the missing part we needed on the D line.

CyBelieve has it right on Irving. His body looks like an NFL d-end right now, but his coordination has to catch up to his body, which is understandable at a young 18. It's like Homan was in basketball, big, raw and uncoordinated as a freshman, then getting better each year until he was all Big 12 caliber as a senior. I could see the same development with Irving, but he is not ready to see the field yet.
