Didn't see this posted, and I know how CF loves a good design thread. Iowa to redesign state license plates after 20 years with the same general design.

People supposedly will have a chance to vote on 3-5 designs. Thoughts?

Personally I like the current design and I was just thinking about how nice our plates look compared to other states. I don't really want them to change. There are some gaudy, crazy, crappy plates out there, while some are way too simple. Iowa strikes a nice balance I think. It is a form of state marketing and there are a lot of fumbles out there with other states (just look at Nebraska and their state seed sower).

Agree. Current plates are solid.

If the pretty ones cost more than the plain ones, you are just throwing tax money down the drain. It's just a license plate. Let the people who want the pretty ones pay for vanity plates. A few years ago TX switched back from a colorful plate to a classic black text on white plate with a couple of ornaments. IMO, it looks fine and they cost less to make than the previous ones.

Montana went simple too, and I dig it. Similar to our past plates.

I think the "pretty" ones you're referring to are the ones that look like someone spilled the printer ink, so yeah, no thanks.

I'd be psyched for a new design. After 20 years, a change would be nice. IMO the current colors of the Iowa plate are too similar to Minnesota.

I agree a simple plate is best. That way the plates won't clash with style or paint color of the car/truck/SUV. Why not keep it simple- pay homage to Iowa being a worldwide leader in corn production. So a gold colored plate makes sense. Then use a popular color for the lettering- cardinal seems an optically pleasing choice. A simple symbol would be great if prison industries can handle it. Something like walking Cy would suit me just fine. Those would be impressive plates.

I hope they keep it simple. Too many plates out there look hideous on common colored vehicles.

Please leave anything ag related off the plates. Everyone in the world knows Iowa for its agriculture. Nice neutral color that doesn't clash and remove the requirement for a front plate. Also make the plate so the adhesive on the renewal tags won't stick anywhere except one place on the license plate. Also remove the county.

Now Iowa, I expect you to do everything opposite of what I requested.

This! Indiana doesn't have a front plate and it looks so much cleaner and nice. I can't figure out a real legitimate reason for needing a front plate either.
