Newbie to Hilton

So I took my mother to the game last night and it was her first time at Hilton. I have offered many times to take her to a game but she would never go(hawkeye fan).

And it didn't take much to have her say that it was a 10x better experience than she has had at Carver in a long time.


Just thought I would share that with you. (Probably stating the obvious)

My folks said the same thing when I took them to a game at James H Hilton Colliseum a few years ago. They said their ears were ringing, the atmosphere was fun, and the crowd was so much younger than Carver.

I knew she would have a good time. Even though it may not be what it was.. it still puts Carver to shame by a LONG shot.

You know, watching on TV, there were a number of shots of Cyclone Alley where the majority of the kids were looking up at the jumbo tron during breaks in the action, or immediately after big plays. I assume they were either watching replays or looking for themselves/friends on the big screen. I wonder how much some of this technology has caused the dilution of Hilton Magic. The Smile Cam, the Kiss Cam, etc etc gets people more involved in "what's on" than what's happening on the court.

You know, watching on TV, there were a number of shots of Cyclone Alley where the majority of the kids were looking up at the jumbo tron during breaks in the action, or immediately after big plays. I assume they were either watching replays or looking for themselves/friends on the big screen. I wonder how much some of this technology has caused the dilution of Hilton Magic. The Smile Cam, the Kiss Cam, etc etc gets people more involved in "what's on" than what's happening on the court.

Something I have noticed though is that Iowa has more of those kind of promotions than we do. We also don't have a Kiss Cam, the main one's are the Smile Cam, The Burrito Pump thing, and the song of the game thing.

jimmy hilton was one of the best isu presidents.my father knew him very well as jimmy's first job was as a county agent in greene county,iowa, in the mid 1920's...he was successful getting the athletic facilities financing from a big dairy alum that had a huge milk company in the baltimore-philadelphia area.kudos to jimmy hilton.the dairy alum i believe was c.y.stephens. please correct me if i am wrong.GO CYCLONES.

Hilton sucked last night.

Indeed. I brought my 7 and 9 year old girls to their first "big" ISU men's basketball game. I was in the last row of 231, right against the back wall. Most of the people in the section didn't cheer and didn't even move unless the fight song started, and then they clapped politely. All this in between texting. I had been talking all week about how this game would be different that than the others and they'd now know what Hilton Magic was. Guess not. :no:

I don't know if these people expected to win, expected to lose, don't care or what, but I'm really not sure why they plunked down $30 to come to the game. I never thought I come out of a game being horribly disappointed after a 10 point win over the Hawks but this was definitely the case.

Clifford Y. Stephens, originally from Cherokee County, Georgia, graduated from Iowa State College (University) in 1925 with a degree in Dairy Science. His first job was as manager of the Farmers Co-Operative Milk Plant in Marshalltown, Iowa. He founded High's Dairy Product Corporation in 1933 in the District of Columbia area, and later pioneered jug milk distribution in Washington and Baltimore.
