Have no idea about who runs this site, but ran across it when looking for draft positions for ISU players. It has both in the 2nd round, Niang #40, McKay #45. Dated March 10, 2015.

Neither is in the top 100 on Draft Express, although I'm not sure how old that list is.

Monte not on either list. I am still sick about losing to UAB. But, I doubt any of the players jumps to the NBA this year, whereas if we had advanced deeper, I could see McKay's stock soar if he continued to play as he did vs. UAB.

Monte is the only one likely to get picked if he left this year, and it could be mid to late second round so I doubt he goes.

Niang and McKay could declare this year and they wouldn't be anywhere close to getting drafted. People can say defense doesn't matter in the NBA but Georges has no place on an NBA court defensively and that will keep him from getting drafted. Jameel can dunk offensively and that's about it. He would get destroyed defensively in the NBA by inside guys.

Monte would have an outside shot at getting drafted.

All 3 are above average to excellent collegiate players. Monte is probably the only one with a shot at getting a roster spot in the NBA and he still has to develop his offensive game to have a shot to stick as a first round pick.

Much like Ejim, Kane, Clyburn, Babb, etc. they're collegiate players who will all have the opportunity to play basketball for money after their collegiate careers are over but people don't understand how limited the NBA is for roster spots.

Just using the eye test, McKay looks to have the most promising NBA career ahead of him IMO. He has the length, the energy, etc to do well in the pros IMO.

Monte might be a good PG someday in the league, but he still has some improvement to make IMO. I don't think he shoots it well enough yet, and he might need to be stronger too.

Niang is a big question mark for me? He's not an NBA player at all physically. However, he still could create matchup nightmares IMO. Larry Bird wasn't physically an NBA player either, but he wasn't bad.

Late in this season, as Niang started backing guys down, and then going to that turnaround fade away shot, he started reminding me more and more of Larry Bird. Now, don't take it that I think Niang is as good as Larry Bird, I'm not saying that at all, but aspects of his game are reminding of him.

He kind of has the same looking outside shot as Larry.... flat footed, same stroke, etc. Not as good as Larry at all, but Niang can still hit his fair share of 3's. And Niang is a good passer as well, like Larry.

Defense will be Niang's liability, but Larry wasn't a good defensive player either. Was Larry like 6'10"? That would really help Niang a lot, if he was taller.

I wish people's concerns about Monte were valid because I want him to stay 4 years, but he's the same size Rondo and CP3 were as college sophomores, plus he's young for a sophomore. He's a better ball handler than those two were in some ways, he's a significantly better shooter right now than Rondo has ever been. The biggest problem on this team this year was few other guys matched Monte's consistency.

I'd say those two were better going to the basket as college players but not better in other areas of the game, and they are stars, not scrubs.

Don't think these two would do much even if drafted. McKay would be pushed around like ragdoll against the inside guys he'd have to guard. Niang is 6'7" or 6'8" right? That would put him at the small forward, as position where he isn't athletic enough to guard the NBA SF's.

As stated above, Monte is the only guy that has a shot as long as he puts on muscle. If he works hard and improves in some key areas like defense and slashing, I don't see any reason why he can't be an above-average NBA PG.

If Dennis Rodman can make a long career in the NBA, then McKay should be able to as well IMO. McKay brings the same energy level as Rodman did IMO. McKay just goes 120% all the time, and never seems to get tired. That is worth a LOT.

Yeah I'm not sold on McKay's NBA future yet, don't know if he's big enough to guard fives and doesn't have the offensive game to make up for that.

Rodman was possibly one of the best overall athletes to play in the NBA, and especially during the time he played in it. Could jump out of the building, was fundamentally sound, and had excellent hands, and actually decent ball skills when he wanted to.

McKay isn't Rodman.

It would surprise me if another season for each doesn't improve draft possibilities (and possibly two more for Monte). That probably sounds selfish as an ISU fan (I'm sure it's part of it). Each has abilities to that extend to the next level, but would benefit from additional time to hone the skills.

A lot of people severely underestimate how hard it actually is to make it in the NBA.

THis is just a ranking of college players, I love these guys but neither are physically ready to play in the NBA. They'd both have to play the 3 in the NBA. Georges defense and McKays weight will hold them back.

I think ppl don't realize how irrelevant talent is when compared to size, speed, potential. The foreign leagues are full of guys who were good enough bball players to make the league but didn't have the measurables. Thats where both of these guys fall IMO. Either way, both will make a good living playing bball for the rest of the career. The good news is both have another year to prove themselves.

This.

It's so hard to make an nba roster. Monte is the only one IMO that has a chance, but even he....I mean my lord...as good as he played...Frank Mason shoved him all over the place, but I certainly like his chances in a couple years.

McKay isn't anywhere close to the NBA. He would get eaten alive right now. If he doesn't gain some weight and develop more offense, he has no shot.

That said, love him as a Cyclone.

Matt Woodley (HC of the Iowa Energy I believe) offered a very good assessment of our season after the loss to UAB on Sports Fanatics. In a nutshell, he doesn't believe we currently have a NBA player on our roster, and said that this team and CFH overachieved this season.
