There was some huge cyclone stuff in the paper last sunday. I think its time to quit trashing this paper company. Just like anyone else they do their best to cover what they can. If your going to bag on it, bag on the writer not the overall paper. Honestly who doesnt love the 2cents section. I recall reading some pissed off person in cedar rapids about that ISU billboard. something about fueling the fire.

So they got something right for a change.

If a kicker makes 1 of 10 field goals...do people praise him for making that one kick and he keeps his job?

I think not.

In general, I don't think the DMR is as bad as some think...yet they have not been at all favorable to ISU lately.

who cares if they like ISU or not.only reason i'd use the paper for is, 1.If I didnt own a tv 2. If I didnt have internet....therefore my care for how much they cover ISU is very low.

Now I'm confused. One moment you want folks to lay off the DMR...next you don't read nor care about it?

The Register should be judged on an individual story bases. If they get a story right, even if it is negative to ISU, they should be commended. When they run a hit piece, they should be called on it.

It was ISU media day, what did you guys expect to be in it. Realistically, the RAG had only 2 full pages dedicated to ISU. I don't think they deserve any praise at all. They were just doing what they had to do. What did they have on EIU media day?

Honestly I was expecting a full spread on ISU's media day. So what we received in yesterdays paper was disappointing. Now I haven't looked at the online content, but .... print is better, imo, when grading the DMR.

Oh well.

-keep.

I had a thread this morning or so saying how I thought the online coverage was excellent.

And the Rag will always be the Rag as long as Keeler and Clark are gainfully employed there.

Keeler's not that bad. Actually he's a drinking buddy of mine. He's a Northwestern grad, so he's gonna be a little pro Big 11.

And Nancy... just ask MeisterBrau about her.

Witosky is the main puke amongst that.

The DNR's coverage was good:confused: They only had two stories on ISU football. Considering we had the only media day to be covered on Saturday their coverage was very poor:growl5cj:

The CR Gazette had some good coverage, yet the stuck a Hawkeye Kinnick Stadium story at the top of the front page to entice the Iowa fans to buy the edition

The dsm rag used to be (a long time ago) one of the best newpapers in the country. Now it is one of the worst.

It's unbelievable how far it's fallen. I'm not sure it's still true, but the Des Moines trivia game I have at home states that the Register is second only to the NY Times in number of Pulitzers.

The DSM register has fallen fast and hard starting when Gannett bought them. The pulitzers fell off at that time too. It is an absolutely Horrible Newspaper compared to years ago. In my family used to sit around the table and read the very well written articles out loud to each other. It is very very liberal in its spin. Just like almost all other Gannett News papers.

Gannett certainly cleaned house cross country to cut costs in order to justify their buying spree. Little research is needed to state the liberal viewpoint and you can carry same stories between their papers. Sign of the NYTimes.

The DMR is our friend, didn't you see the Monday edition, they ran the Principal Charity Classic as the lead story instead of the Iowa Media Day coverage. The first thing I look forward to on football Sundays is the coverage of the Saturday game, 10x better than the TV coverage.

You have a Des Moines Register trivia game?????

It's a Des Moines trivia game. Half the questions are about the city and half are about the companies that sponsored the game. I think the Register question was on a city card, so shouldn't have been false propaganda. I knew the paper used to be a great one, but wasn't aware of the awards until I missed that question.

The Principal news WAS pretty big for central Iowa. ISU and UI media day coverage could have been a lot better, but were there. I DO agree about the Sunday coverage of the football games. That has been much improved in recent years and similar treatment for ISU and UI.

On a related topic, can anyone explain why they can't use the discolored paper with the new press for Sunday sports? It was ugly paper, but it was kind of unique to the Register.
