Kind of what I was thinking. This may be the worst OU team we have seen in a long time, yet can't win.
Agree with that. We were essentially playing their backup defense, along with a converted tight end at RB. I've never seen a Stoops team that conservative. Like they just wanted to keep their defense off the field and go home with a W.

This has been mentioned before but the parallels to Hoiberg's first year are there. You watch a team lose quite a few games that they were in. Play tough but just lack the skill/technique to make those few plays to pull out the W. Yes, it sucks that we have ONE win on the season, but I've enjoyed watching the conference games. I too agree that 1-2 seasons from now the record will look very different. It seems that many of the big plays are coming from freshman/sophomores out there.

Our biggest issue is the DL and LB position. Every team has been successful in sustaining long drives via the run, especially in the latter parts of games. We have no depth there and the guys are getting gassed. Couple that with some more offensive consistency and we'll start to see wins.

We have been competitive in almost all the conference games and were pretty close against several of the better programs in the league. The strides we have made are great. Just need some more skill in certain areas and some more depth. You can tell this team is giving their all and playing hard so this year has been enjoyable to watch.

So im delirious because we have played a tight game with 3 good opponents? Dont remember saying anything about how good i think we are or how good we will be. Pretty sure it was just a simple question but i guess i should have realized the debbie downers of CF would show up and throw ***** at every post and every person with a hint of optimism.

You honestly think OSU overlooked ISU a week after ISU almost knocked off Baylor?

Would need to play good, consistently winning football for several years before there was actually respect from the top-tier programs out there.

Otherwise ISU's more like Kansas.

So here is my question. Are we not getting respect from good teams and they are not even preparing for us, or are we just a step away from winning some big games?

Besides the second game of the year we have been in dang near every game with, for the most part, a better than average chance to win.
I think most coaches in the conference know Ames is tough place to play, so they are not looking past a road game in Ames, I also believe they preach to their player s to get ready and not overlook, but I am sure there are out-liars within the team that look past for sure with being a 1-8 team.... But just for comparison on difference OU played KU last week, they are also a 1 win team.... 56-3, that is a bit of beat down, and our game last night was competative through the entire thing till the bad execution crept in at the end... 34-24 final

No one is not preparing for games against ISU. That would be completely moronic. The record is horrible, but the Clones have scared a lot of the better teams in the league. Even last night, ISU had a couple chances to make plays to win the game. The fact that they did not make them does not mean that OU didn't have to be prepared for something to go horrible wrong. The Cyclones are definitely short on OL, DL, and LBers, but they do have some very good players at WR, RB, DB, and even QB.

If a person is a coach or member of a coaching staff in a power 5 conference [Actually any good coach at any level] you prepare, prepare again, and go over it again no matter what the records. In fact, A coach of a good team will worry as much or more when playing a team they are supposed to spank easily. To think otherwise is downright nutty!!!!!!

You try too hard on selling us your coaches. They can sell themselves with wins. Now I am all for oral victories, but dammit I want to fly the W and I am not even a Cubs fan.

I don't think it's either.

Opposing players aren't going to give our guys the same respect that OU or UT gets, because that has to be earned. However, opposing coaches know they can't just show up and beat us any more.

I consider being "there" as consistently finishing in the top half of the conference and competing for bowl games regularly. I don't think we are "almost there" yet.

One thing I like is that, outside of the Iowa game, our effort has been solid despite not having the talent depth to play a complete game. We're like a boxer that can hold his own for five or six rounds, deliver a haymaker or two and finish the fight, but lose to a unanimous decision. What's important is that we are starting to avoid the knockouts.

I think over the next two years, we will finish off one or two more of these closer games, show up better in the non-con, and squeak out a bowl. Hopefully I'm being pessimistic in my thought process, but, if the improvements continue, I could see us approaching "there" in three years.

Wow - almost where? There is a difference from being a "debbie downer" and a realist. We are in mode of hoping - yes hoping - to beat Kansas. We are not "almost anywhere" . 4-5 years before this team finds stability and wins past 6 a season. Please go back in history to all the glowing comments made about LanRam last year and replace with Park. He is a project who was out of football for a reason. We are seeing why - he is not consistent and may never be. The OL and DL and LB positions are weak and have no depth. That is reality and cannot be fixed with a CF poster's "belief" it will be better next year- it may be but we have not seen it so I am not counting on it. Is it possible we win more next year? Yes - is it probable we win 3-4 ? Yes - Bowl game - doubtful at best. 3 B12 wins at minimum and sweeping non-con? Really? I would love to see it and will buy tickets again - but will not "bet the house"!

I'm not hoping to beat Kansas; I'm expecting it.

Before we get too excited about playing OU to within 10 remember that OU was about to punch it in again without really trying and the fact that they could kneel the ball and run out the clock was the only reason they didn't likely score another TD.

I am glad that the team hasn't completely folded, but I've seen this too many times to expect that they are about to turn the corner.

No sir I don't sell to hard. I provide insight based on 5 years of close contact with these coaches. You should be more worried if I say they suck on a post by post basis based on my experiences. Now, the post you responded about had nothing to do with selling anything. It was about opposition coaches and if they prepare as hard for ISU etc. etc. All this being said, I also want a W!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's almost worse to think of it that way. Oklahoma brings a half assed effort and still wins. Like they're playing their kid brother.
You can say that again. Their defense didn't even want to be there. All those 4 and 5 stars, and they mail it in.
