Meh, if he wants to keep playing, and there's someone willing to give him the opportunity, no skin off my back. He likely realizes that the NFL isn't in his future, so I can't blame him for wanting one more shot at playing before he becomes an insurance salesman or corporate stooge.
He's burned bridges at 2 schools and is not a good quarterback, simply doesn't have the arm. There will not be a big market for him

Didn't claim there would be. My point is that if he wants to keep playing football for another year, and there's a team that wants him to, there's nothing wrong with that.

Hard to know if these guys are entering portal strictly for financial reasons or is it because they feel out of flavor for the coaching staff.

It might just be message board chatter, but I saw Florida State fans talking about going after Avery Johnson.

So what is the story behind the Wi FB player that is sueing the school? @Mr Janny any insights? You're usually up on this legal stuff.

I was just reading about it last night. It feels like it's going to be a test of how binding some of these NIL deals are. Supposedly he signed a NIL deal with the Wisconsin collective in early December, but then announced his intent to transfer a few weeks later. Wisky has not filed the release paperwork yet, but hasn't explained why. The player retained council and is trying to take legal action. Not a ton of details yet, beyond speculation

The article I read mentioned the Wisky athlete had hired legal counsel. Interesting the lawyer had associations with both the University of Florida and University of Miami. The lawyer mentioned he wasn't aware his client had signed any paperwork. Hmmm.

If I was to speculate, follow the money! Or in Wisky's case, the loss of money.

I find it interesting in cases like this that lawsuits usually include the University and NCAA. Curious how the Conferences (in this case Big10), usually avoid being included as they also have deep pockets.

Whether or not Wisconsin has a legal leg to stand on, the longer this plays out, the worse it gets for them. Other players see what's happening. The last thing you want is to give ammo to other schools with whom you're competing for recruits. "Oh, you're considering Wisconsin? Did you hear how they wouldn't let that guy transfer? Pretty harsh. We don't do that here. We think our culture... and Falbo brothers pizza, is good enough that you won't want to leave. But if you do, we won't stop you.... Not like Wisconsin"

No school wants that reputation.... especially one that just went 5-7

Agree. That's what makes me speculate a "really" big check was involved and Wisconsin is willing to make a stance. Or they have information he had a deal with another school in place and simultaneously was still taking money from the Badgers.

The difficulty, I would think, is that the current rules don't allow for there to be a requirement to play for a specific school. So, I wouldn't think Wisconsin would be able to use a NIL deal as reasoning for holding up his transfer. Whether or not they should or shouldn't be able to, is debatable, but but under the current rules, I can't imagine they have much of a leg to stand on. The thing that I find the most frustrating is that the school hasn't said anything about it. The lack of communication makes it look bad from a PR perspective, petty and possibly punitive. Dangerous waters to be in.

That's why I'm speculating Wisconsin's hard legal stance goes beyond NIL deal and some more fundamental legal issues. Aka fraud, etc

The problem for Wisconsin is this isn't the first time they've been vindictive and petty to a former player who wanted to transfer.

At least in the past, there weren't any legal ramifications for Wisconsin, just a few days of bad press. I think there were others, but when Uthoff decided to transfer, Wisconsin blocked him from all Big 10 schools, all ACC, schools, and Marquette and Iowa State. He ended up at Iowa obviously but it cost him a year of eligibility.
