I watched the game on FSNMW last night. During the first half, Norm Stewart spent some time talking about how great Barry Stevens was. Then the camera panned to Jeff Grayer and Norm said "hey there's Barry.... wait... no... that's Jeff Grayer". Apparently he didn't know Barry had passed on. His comment was followed by a very uncomfortable silence by the play by play guy.

Yeah, we discussed that a bit in the game thread.

It was horrible. How much prep does one need to know that a Big 8 legend whose arena you are broadcasting a game in has died and thus will not be at the number retirement ceremony?

I'm tempted to write to FSN or a Missouri paper and say that while I am saddened at the passing of Norm Stewart, I do think he was a good coach from a rival university.

Oh well. He is the former Missouri Coach and not the ISU one. Those things will happen.

Norm was a very good coach and put a lot of wins on the board for Missouri. For those of you who question Coach McDermotts UNI pedigree, remember Norm Stewart first coach at UNI and moved onto tremendous success with Missouri in the Big12.

I will say the only coach I disliked more then Norm Stewart when he was coaching was Billy Tubbs at Okalahoma.....

He was just generally awful to listen to last night. Never finished his thoughts, sounded like the crotchety old grampa sitting on his porch yelling at the damn kids to get off his lawn. Unbearable.

And both he and McLaughlin kept pronouncing Jiri's name "Hoob-a-lick".

Reminder to self: Never move away, Walters and Heft never disappoint.

I'm always tempted to be that guy at the game with the radio to listen along, would liked to have heard what they said during the game last night.

Their play by play guy was pretty good, IMO. Norm didn't bother me that much, like someone here said, it was like listening to your Grandpa.

I never cared for Billy Tubbs either, but you had to admire his classic "Quit throwing things on the court no matter how bad the officiating is" plea to the crowd.

Yeah, i was the one of the people complaining in the game thread last night about him, especially the Grayer/Stevens mixup. That's pretty bad.

Let's face it, the dude is old, and he's lost a fair amount of gray matter. He's like having your grandpa doing a game. The Mizzou fans love him, though, so that's what you get. And he did have some occasional insights that weren't bad.

He did have one funny comment, though. On Barry Stevens and Jeff Grayer, he said something to the effect of -- "Those guys owe me one of their letters, they scored so many points on my teams."

I'm sure the announcers were discussed during the game, but they were horrible. Partly, because they were Mizzou's announcers but ol' Norm sounded drunk or confused or both. I had to turn off the sound for the second half. I coudn't stand how they pronounced Hubalek.

Yesterday I looked over at Heft after a controversial call (I think the "shooting" foul when he wasn't shooting) and was more animated than the coaches were, he was almost standing up. Cracked me up.:biglaugh:

The board is definitly much funner to read after a big win. Didn't watch the game last night but at any point did anyone tug Norm on the sleeve and fill him in on Barry's passing. Was his son at the ceremony last night?
