Any coach at any time could have a 2 seed and lose to a 15 even if all's well and rosy.
Just think how ****** Virginia felt when they lost to a 16 seed. Basketball is a crazy sport and anyone can get hot. If you’re winning 65% of your games you’re doing pretty well.

WVU is a tough matchup for ISU because both ISU's offense and defense styles kind of play into WVU's strategy. When ISU switches and double teams on defense, it creates mismatches that WVU aggressively goes after to draw fouls. On offense, ISU doesn't really pressure the defense, so when the the second half rolls around, the WVU guys generally don't have any foul trouble and can crank up the physical pressure.

I'm hoping over the next couple of years as the roster is built, ISU on defense can get away from the switching and rely more on straight-up man-to-man, and on offense, can develop a more pressure-oriented attack that can generate some fouls earlier in the game to take some of the steam out of uber-aggressive defenses like Muggin' Huggins uses. The refs aren't going to change or suddenly get better, so strategy will need to counter what Huggins does.

It seems like getting beat handily by Baylor in KC led to some rumblings of problems with the mental state of the team.

Oh I’ll take TJ going to the elite 8. If you want to say that is batshit crazy, go for it.
Given time and the recruits TJ is pulling in I see the possibility of a final 4 run in our future. May be wishful thinking. I think TJ is that good a coach, and ISU has the fanbase to make it happen.

They were cashed out long before that.

After getting housed in Texas they were never the same even in wins.

Point being whether things are good or bad, tourney don't care.

ISU was up, what, 10 or so with a few minutes left in Boise? It looked like despite the weirdness thry'd hold on...until they didn't.

Even if we won it was just not enjoyable. Guys played their guts out but the officiating made it damn near unwatchable
The officiating was a complete joke. I haven't seen a Big XII or any college hoops game this season where 30+ fouls were called on one team.

And not only that but an 11 foul discrepancy between ISU & WV is also ridiculous considering both teams play equally aggressive styles.

So I guess we should expect the reverse when WV comes to Ames, right?

But of course that won't happen and because Huggins gets lots of calls 'cause of his seniority, I'd expect we'll be lucky to get an even split with fouls at Hilton.

We'll still win regardless.

And Erik Stevenson can foul out twice! :p
I was just listening to the WV players post game. Emmitt Matthews called out the play where Eric was "injured". He called it a dirty play and why he was motivated Yada, Yada. I mean Kal kicked him upside the head for sure but in passing. I can say with almost certainty it was accidental.

Their coach, their players, and their fans see things very differently than most. Our fanbase was getting close to that prior to TJ. I'm so glad TJ holds his team to a higher standard and think it's rubbing off on our fanbase. I'm actually surprised how little booing is occurring in Hilton this year.

Anyone out there that just plans on their team to win a bunch of tourney games based on the season isn't paying attention to how it works.

Sure, a strong team should have a good chance but it's a one game shooting contest and all sorts of things can happen.

Did he let out a guttural **** when he finally went to the bench?
I heard that, and remember waiting for it to get some kind of negative reaction from the announcers or officials. Nothing.

Not surprised. Huggins had the whole arena in his trance.

Or, Huggins can, you know...

I think he is 68 or 69 y/o.

Your factual approach ruins a good freakout, but OK.

I saw ISU falling from a 4 to a 5 seed today get called 'plummeting'.

I'd really like to know the moment when ISU getting anything lower than a 3 or 4 seed became a problem.

No doubt. 4 and 5 are, in a sense, the same thing since they exist on a path to play one another, and then the 1 seed. No huge difference there.

Kind of the same with 2 and 3. No biggie between the two.
