I didn’t get to watch the game live, but I just finished watching the recording of it. I am extremely proud of how these young men stepped up in the moment of adversity. The Cyclone pride and character was on fully display. Rest up and heal up quickly. Great things are coming soon.

Did you or your co-watchers believe that BYU got the benefit of any calls or non-calls?
Officiating is SO subjective. They have to make instantaneous judgments on things that happen in tenths of a second, and the reality is that they often miss things or make mistakes. If THE OFFICIALS, just feet away from the incident, miss calls, I don't have much confidence in the judgment of any fan from any team watching from the stands or on TV.

I also think that anyone enthusiastic enough to follow basketball probably wears mental glasses in their team's colors. Consequently, they think any calls FOR their team are obviously correct while any calls AGAINST their team are questionable at best. Not that fans are prejudiced or anything!;)

Bottom line: I think the officials make a fair number of mistakes, but I don't think it's deliberate or indicative of bias. I will say this: three years ago when BYU was playing in another conference, the officiating was quite different. With those officials, I think ANY Big XII team would have had every starter fouled out by halftime because they called a lot of what I considered minor, and questionable, fouls. Coming to watch the Big XII was a huge difference. There's a lot more "let the guys play" attitude here. For what it's worth, I think that helps the Big XII teams because the NCAA Tournament officials seem to call things that way too.

I listed to John and Eric the last 1/3 of the game on the Varsity app. Eric Heft could tell with about 10 minutes left that the team was running out of gas and he wasn't sure if they could keep up (still a tie game at that point). You could almost tell in their voice that they knew we couldn't hold on.

According to John and Eric, that 5th foul on Heise was a terrible call. The refs said Heise grabbed the arm but Eric said it wasn't even close.
Heise nudged him in the back on the drive but it was pretty weak. He grabbed the arm out by the ft line but they didnt call that. BYU got the "automatic whistle" on about every drive during a crucial stretch. They made a lot of plays on both ends to seal the deal, but they weren't hurting for calls.

I was in a bar watching so couldn't listen to J&E but I said the same thing at about the 8 minute mark. Playing yesterday and with no bench today took our legs away late. Out effort was 100%+, but there wasn't much left in the tank.

First of all, GREAT game today. Well played and exciting. Tip of the cap to B.Y.U. I hope they beat Houston tomorrow.

So, the Cyclones finished 5th in the Regular Season (Bummer) and out in the Quarter-Finals of the Big XII Tournament (Bummer). No banners or trophies so far.

Hopefully, the lads can reach at least the Sweet 16 (which I think is their ceiling). Just feeling kind of blah about basketball right now.

Prove me wrong boys! Make a run to the Elite 8 or Final 4 and turn a mildly disppointing season into one of the best in ISU history.

Let's Go State!

Great effort. My only quibble … no defensive adjustment to guard the 3 point line better.

If the on-ball defender can’t stop the dribble drive, just give them the layup rather the kick out to an open man. They just murdered us on the drive and kick.

That is an elite 3 point shooting team. Need to recognize it.

If Lipsey and Gilbert play, BYU is toast.

We were missing our two best perimeter defenders. Only so much you can do when short-benched, unfortunately.

The officials weren't perfect, but they were not the reason for the foul differential. BYU's guys could drive the paint pretty much at will and distribute or attempt a paint shot which tends to result in more fouls. Conversely, other than Momcilovic or Jeffereson backing down their defender, not much of our offense was downhill.

Solid effort by the players. But we gave up 96 points to BYU and there's maybe, maybe a 10% chance we win. With Gilbert and Lipsey out, our best chance of winning was a game in the 70's.

IMO a sweet 16 should be the floor for any TJ team. It’s not really an accomplishment it’s the expectation.
I am not there yet. TJ made the sweet sixteen two out of his first three years. Very impressive indeed. However, I cant say that I expect him to go to the sweet sixteen every year. The goal, yes, but not the expectation.

Having the sweet sixteen as the expectation every year kind of sounds like entitlement. I don’t ever want to see ISU‘s fan base being characterized as entitled. Rather, I prefer the current slogan “Nothing Easy.”

Always appreciate the insight from other fanbases, so thank you for sharing.

BYU has a ton of positive things going for it. Goodness, that offense is such a well-oiled machine. Really fun to watch! Seems like a group of nice coaches and players but my goodness, do the BYU players b*tch. All they do, every single possession, is b*tch and whine. EVERY single whistle against them - not some - not half of the whistles - but quite literally 100% of whistles - they flop and flail their arms and IMMEDIATELY whine to the nearest official. They flop and flail constantly to try to get fouls called on the opponent, and somehow it works! It’s the craziest thing. It works consistently! And not just 1 or 2 players. ALL are whiny b*tches, for 40 minutes. On the bench while seemingly getting rest - nope! Whining, b*tching - every single possession.

Again - what an offensive machine ya got at BYU. So fun to watch, truly poetry in motion. I think they can beat ANY team in the country. I really believe that. And normally I would root for a team like that to go deep in the tourney, represent the Big 12 in positive way, etc. But I cannot root for b*tches. When a team literally is getting EVERY whistle, and NOT having whistles called on them, yet they still insist on crying to an official every single time (again, not some of the time - but every single time) - that is… not something I respect. I do NOT wish ill-will on players or teams or schools (because that would be silly - this is a game after all) - but I sincerely hope and pray that the universe finds a way to humble that group of whiny b*tches. No idea what that would even be, but I’ll leave it up to the universe to find the way…
I usually don't watch games that we lose. I might have to watch this game again, from your perspective. I don't like whiney, complaining players either.
