Today was the best thing that could have happened to this team IMO. A close loss.

More than ANYTHING else right now... this team needs rest... and they need to get healthy. Playing more games on consecutive days would only hurt us.
Feel like TJ and staff will have these guys full attention as well as pride. What they did short handed — phenomenal.

If they guard and defend and dominate the tone there’s no one they should be intimidated by.

This is my first attended tournament. I’m not disappointed. Short handed this team adjusted and played tough. ISU had a run and took a lead. BYU coaches adjusted and found a way to win.
The experience here in KC has been very good talking with other school attendees. They complimented ISU fans for being good people and look forward to coming to Ames for football and basketball, because of how the teams compete and the fans. That in itself self says so much about ISU .
Proud to be a Cyclone!

Great effort. My only quibble … no defensive adjustment to guard the 3 point line better.

If the on-ball defender can’t stop the dribble drive, just give them the layup rather the kick out to an open man. They just murdered us on the drive and kick.

That is an elite 3 point shooting team. Need to recognize it.

It's hard to guard the arc shorthanded and then even more so when the opponent has, what, 8 different people hitting threes? That's going to stretch anyone out.

I am not there yet. TJ made the sweet sixteen two out of his first three years. Very impressive indeed. However, I cant say that I expect him to go to the sweet sixteen every year. The goal, yes, but not the expectation.

Having the sweet sixteen as the expectation every year kind of sounds like entitlement. I don’t ever want to see ISU‘s fan base being characterized as entitled. Rather, I prefer the current slogan “Nothing Easy.”

If the likes of Duke and KU have had lots of seasons where they didn't get out of the first weekend, imo it's ok to accept that it's not going to be automatic for ISU.

First of all, GREAT game today. Well played and exciting. Tip of the cap to B.Y.U. I hope they beat Houston tomorrow.

So, the Cyclones finished 5th in the Regular Season (Bummer) and out in the Quarter-Finals of the Big XII Tournament (Bummer). No banners or trophies so far.

Hopefully, the lads can reach at least the Sweet 16 (which I think is their ceiling). Just feeling kind of blah about basketball right now.

Prove me wrong boys! Make a run to the Elite 8 or Final 4 and turn a mildly disppointing season into one of the best in ISU history.

Let's Go State!

:bugle:
Win it all or bust!

We get healthy, we can do it. We haven't had our best string of games yet, with all our players. If I was a top 10 team, I would not particularly like an ISU draw.

Just finished watching the game and didn’t know the result going into it. Being honest, kind of relieved with how things turned out. Play well enough to give the guys a boost of confidence going into next week, but lose the game, so that Tamin and KG have more time to rest. Last thing we needed is to play again tomorrow and then on of these two aggravates their injuries even more.

Kind of a sidenote. Are CJ's 20+ points, within 5-+ minutes, anywhere near an NCAA record??? (regular-post season).
I was work-related, stuck with John and Eric (a blessing of sorts).
Walter's offers up yet another, "Cujo for three!" I keep waiting for a miss.
Nope.
Ps. My gf says," CJ is the cutest Cyclone ever, no matter the sport.
I kinda agree!

It is hard to guard the 3 point line if the coaching staff sticks with our trapping defense if Lipsey and Gilbert are out or their quickness limited by injury.

BYU is a unique animal with all their 3 point shooters and great ball movement & motion. But we are going to face solid teams in the NCAA Tournament and IMO we might be better defensively if we play straight up man defense. I have felt all year that we aren't at the same level as previous years with our post players in double teams. Guys like Jefferson & Jackson don't have the length, quickness or experience as Rob Jones, Ward, King, etc.

I'll be curious what BYU's offense does tomorrow against Houston. Our scoring defense was something like 3rd in the Bg12 this season. But only a .5 a point separated ISU and the 8th best scoring defense Baylor. Meanwhile, Houston's scoring defense was 9ppg better than ISU.

I wouldn't argue the point with you. ISU with Lipsey against BYU: 29 turnovers. ISU without Lipsey against BYU: 10 turnovers. Yeah, I think you could safely say things would have been different with Lipsey playing.

Houston is going to kick your team's a$$. Lipsey is a lot more than turnover stats you polygamist puke. Have a nice weekend.

I too wish we played more straight up defense. Alot of our issues start with allowing dribble penetration, forcing guys to help off the guy their our guarding. Seemingly teams have figured this out and a skip pass or two and they are sitting their with a wide open jumper. That combined with the double teams we give up ALOT of open 3's which can be a recipe for disaster (which we saw yesterday).

Not sure many people remember the first conference game of the season against Baylor but they couldn't throw it in ocean. They shot wide open 3 after wide open 3 and kept missing. We won handily but had they been hitting that game would have been entirely different. I think our defense really comes down to our ability to defend the 3 point line and limit fouls. Yes, it's a tall task but that's how teams defend us and numerous teams have bene successful during Big 12 play in doing that.

Time will tell but hopefully they can make the necessary adjustments to make a run starting next week.

The guys battled their hearts out, such a great effort. Tamin and Keshon get healthy and everyone hopefully collectively healthy can do that effort for the big dance.

If you were someone watching Iowa State yesterday who didn't know that they were missing two all league starters, you would have still thought that the #12 rating was well deserved.

BYU is damn good, and nearly unbeatable when they're hot but the difference yesterday was depth. The BYU coach was right in the late huddle when he said we were tired and missing everything short.

Still, a tremendously gutty effort and you can see the confidence level of Momcilovic, Heise and some of our role players growing a lot in that game. I think this team can still go far if Lipsey can at least play at a 75% level, even if we don't get much contribution from Kishon. I think a Sweet 16 is possible if neither is able to play, but that might be the ceiling there.
