Story Co.
It's already happened, just not public yet.

So if you're wrong are you going to own up to it and admit you were wrong or disappear? You've stated this as a fact multiple times so I have to assume you're totally confident about Fred leaving. I highly doubt many if any other than Fred actually know which way he's leaning yet people keep claiming it's a done deal. Sounds like a bunch of bs to me. I don't know whether he's staying or going but based on what I do know I'd put it at 50/50.

Couldn't agree more

Stopped after 2nd paragraph

Not CycloneNations best week

Try reading the whole thing. It's really not that bad. Goes on to call Fred a great person but says maybe we just expected to much to think this was his dream job.

The Chicago Bulls are like Herpes...as long as Fred is at ISU, they will be impossible to get rid of and continually bring out the worst in us fans with continuous exit speculation.

This needs to be ISU's question #1 in any MBB head coaching search. "Do you have any connection to the Chicago Bulls?"

I think a lot of the people taking offense to the WRNL article are people who think Fred Hoiberg is untouchable.

Fred Hoiberg is not untouchable.

I think the Bulls job (if it comes available) will be difficult for Coach to pass up on and that is okay with me. I can't blame him at all. I think recruiting in the NCAA takes a toll on many coaches. You waste years recruiting a player you may not actually get. The rules and regulations are obscene.

I love Ames, but I can understand anyone wanting to move to a bigger market and coach the type of game you love. Hoiberg loves the NBA and it is okay in my mind for him to make that a dream a reality. I am thankful that Iowa State allowed him the avenue to do that. That is pretty amazing to think about.

Is Fred gone? I don't know...but I would if I had to put a % on it I would say 75% yes he is gone and I am good with that. I have the utmost respect for him and am thankful he came back home for a few years to have us all fall in love with ISU basketball all over again.

The WRNL hatchet job could have waited until something happened, if indeed it does happen.

That whole piece is an embarrassment.

Edit: I retract my comment on the author, I don't know the guy. I stand by the rest of my statement.

It wasn't a heart attack but it was open heart surgery. My wife had a valve repair which is a grade level less serious than Fred's. It took her a summer to recover. Fred is younger and in great physical shape, but he will still be in recovery for a while. Seriously doubt he can handle an NBA head coach job for 9 or 10 hours per day yet.
You do realize that being a coach isn't like working for the government. It's not a 9 or 10 hour a day job to be a head coach at the NCAA or NBA rank. Coaches probably work a good 16-18 hours a day, 7 days a week, especially once the season starts. If being an NBA coach is a 9-10 hour job then sign me up! That would be less hours than I work now and for much more money.

One of the things I've noticed about our fanbase is how incredibly petty and unforgiving we are...

Fred took us to 4 straight NCAA tournaments (something no other ISU head coach can say)
Fred won back to back Big 12 tournaments (something no other ISU head coach can say)
Has the longest streak ever for ISU being a ranked team
Brought ISU back to relevance...

No debating those things. On the other hand, Hoiberg signed a new contract after last season that gave him a nice raise. That contract runs through 2023. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I believe that signed contracts should mean at least something. I know that sports contracts are "unique", but ISU was offering money in exchange for stability. **IF** Hoiberg takes an NBA job, it would seem that he was happy to take the money, but had little intent of giving back the stability for which that money was given. That's why I would be very disappointed.

That's why buyouts are put into contracts, and the buyout if he left for the NBA is significantly less than for another college team. If that wasn't writing on the wall then I don't know what was, and ISU agreed to it.

If.he does.come back, that needs to change. ISU needs a long term commitment or he is probably just better off going now.
