Iowa State at least giving a call is interesting. Mathis is one of the few Grad Transfers left who could help ISU next year and be major insurance if Bolton isn't granted his waiver. (Blackshear would be another).
I am not sure Prohm giving him a call is anything more than just to gauge interest and I don't expect Mathis to end up even visiting ISU let alone committing considering his options. I'll give credit to Prohm for at least keeping the options open and possibly dealing with the roster consequences if it is necessary.
Much like when DeAndre Kane's decision was made hard decisions needed to be made every few years to improve the team even if feelings are hurt. I don't think any Cyclone fan would look back at that as the wrong choice 5 years later, even if it may have hurt some JC coaches relationships.
