Additionally, who are you so afraid of giving up? I can’t think of a single asset that we’d actually trade that would make me think a competitive window is “closing or shortening”
Exactly. Is anybody torn up by the fact we gave up Torres to get Chapman?

Plus, Jed's trade history, outside of the Darvish deal that he was forced into by ownership, is pretty freaking solid. He'll do a nice job here.

I'm not sure I'd give up Caissie for a rental.
I saw a writer suggest they could get Suarez and Gallen for Caissie and a lottery tix. I know Gallen is having a down year but if the FO thinks it’s minor adjustment I don’t see how you can’t make that move.

Regarding Caissie Alcantara. Jed said something about PCA today that hits home when you have a superior athlete they are more likely to outperform projections. That said I love keeping the Jaguar plus he’s your emergency CF.

It's really an interesting conundrum. I totally get what you are saying, and I always struggle to trade for pitching that can only play every 5th game. If you get into a playoff series you can get to a 3-4 man rotation. Boyd, Shota, Horton and if you have to start Rea you just call it a bullpen day is probably serviceable.

On the other hand, you have the best offense in baseball. You may just have one year of Tucker so you have to push the envelope. You have some quality prospects that are boxed out positionally over the next 2-3 years at least. So what exactly are you holding on to them for?
IMO playoff baseball is a different game than regular season and having an elite starter and closer are critical.

I don't want Hoyer to overpay to obtain a 1/2 level starter. This is a time for Hoyer to ID an arm who can rise to playoff baseball, but be under the radar. Hoyer will need to earn his pay.

Where is the rest of this gif? The best part is his reaction when he gets the ball back.

Even the Darvish deal I'm not going to say it's awful yet depending on what comes out of caissie. Darvish has been solid with Padres but not great

Maybe it's just me but is Shota's velocity down some lately? Seems to be missing less and less bats.
