I think I picked the wrong day to be at Target Field last night...

From the cheap seats it sure looked like it just wasn't the Cubs' night. Lot's of warning track balls. So many balls hit that were at the fielders while similar balls hit by the Twins just found the gap. How many foul balls were just a foot on the wrong side of the wall resulting in an eay out? I can remember two for sure that if they were just 2 feet further out they are out of play.

Just not their night.
sometimes it is a game of inches or catches like the Cubs turned in today

In zero way do I think this would actually happen, but just came up with a trade idea.

Guardians send Jose Ramirez for Matt Shaw, Kevin Alcantara, James Triantos, and Ben Brown.

You then trade for rental SPs with experience, who will be cheap, and then focus on the true TOR stuff this offseason.

As much as we are hard on Swanson, Happ is really struggling lately too. He hit .208 in June with a .298 OBP and so far in July he's batting .074 with .286 OBP. Not the kind of production you want from your leadoff guy. Before PCA started hitting bombs I would have said give him a shot there but he needs to be in the heart of the order at this point. Busch is almost hitting .300 on the season now but he's not a threat to steal bases. Nico is at .287 maybe give him a crack at it?

Shaw's hitting is getting hard to look past lately. He's has a brutal month and a half now. If they can get Suarez you have to make that trade and send Shaw back to Iowa to develop more.

I’d take that trade in a heartbeat if we are going to be serious contenders.

Send Happ to the DL for a phantom injury, call up Caissie and let's see what the kid can do. You can either put Suzuki in LF and DH Caissie or vice versa. Neither is a train wreck in the OF or a plus fielder, so it's pretty much a wash in that regard. Definitely ready to see Shaw sent back to Iowa.

Shaw offensively definitely not ready. Hes turned into a really really good defender though.

I'm reluctantly ok if he's included for anyone with multiple years. If they trade him for a rental I might hurl.
Anyone in mind that you be ok trading him for? I'm trying to gage his return. If I knew Tucker would be back I'd be more open to it

Shaw is in that tough spot where AAA pitching doesn't challenge him at all so he really needs to be learning in the bigs but you can't have that in the middle of a season like this. Definitely going to want that speed and defense on the playoff roster though....

DJ LaMahieu would be a nice bench piece. If we add Suarez, Berti, Shaw and our third catcher would be a nice upgrade across the board. DJ is listed at first second and third and was a gold glove at utility only a couple years ago.

Plus they could send Shaw down for a couple weeks then decide between him and Turner for the playoffs.
