The Cubs can live with Shaw hitting .200 as long as he is the only glaring weak spot. Trouble is guys like Happ & Swanson run luke-warm or ice cold. I wouldn't pass up on a Suarez or Ramirez but I'd rather use the Cubs best prospects on a top tier SP.

Feel like the Cubs could find .250ish hitting 3B that they could platoon (70/30) with Shaw over remainder of season.

My big picture issue with Shaw- will he ever be a slugging 3B? If he's not going to be a 20HR/40DBL hitter, then his long-term position is 2B.

Yeah that's why I think maybe Happ shouldn't be batting lead off. He is in another one of his ice cold streaks again. Seems like he is either going 7 for 10 off of Nolan Ryan or he would go 1-10 off of me. No happy medium.

I thought I heard somewhere on here though that you have a nasty 75mph sweeper?

Gore is the first name that comes to mind
There is almost zero chance Gore gets traded. Under team control for two more years and would be a pretty tough sell to the fans trading away one of the guys you traded your young superstar away for. Plus I think the Nats aren’t too far away from making some noise in the NL East. I like their young guys

Agree Gore is unlikely but the question was an example of a guy I'd put Caissie on the table for. It would have to be someone like him with a few years of control.

I'd say there is a chance but the price would be mighty high. Gore will be a good deal more expensive in his last two arb years and they still are ways off from competing IMO. Good young pieces, but a tough division right now with Mets/Phillies/Braves. If they arent thinking they'll extend him, they may want to keep loading up on young pieces. Again though, price would be astronomical I'd think.

Will be interesting what the asking prices will be. Remember we gave up our top prospect and 3 other players for a rental closer in 2016. Depending on who they target and how many trades they make it would not be surprised if 1 or 2 of the top 5 prospects get dealt.

This may be an unpopular take by some but I don't feel Ballesteros is untouchable in a trade. Reason I say this is if he can't develop into an everyday catcher he is pretty much destined to be a DH if his bat plays in the big leagues. He's only 21 so maybe I need to show more patience but some of the other top guys have more positional flexibility and defensive value. To get the caliber of guys that we are hoping to get the price make hurt a bit to get a deal done.

I’ll be happy if the Cubs are clinging to a 1 game lead in the Division after this weekend into the break. I’d still feel pretty good about winning it when all is said and done.
