I think we win this one. I don't see Otz tolerating anything less than complete, cult-like adherence to the toughness and team ball he's preached since the day he arrived.
It does seem like a good night to bet on ISU. Miles or no Miles for TCU.

Ah, Prentiss Nixon. His shooting was a frequent discussion topic on here. Not quite KJ Bluford level chucker though.
There was a decent amount of hype surrounding him, too. Not mention he had the Larry Eustachy seal of approval.

I remember he had a decent enough looking shot, but they always hit so hard, even on his makes. Maybe the most disappointing guard who played starter minutes that I can remember.

Nixon was a decent, not great shooter, before the line moved back for the 2019-2020 season. He was a horrendous shooter after that. Very disappointing, even though he averaged almost 10 ppg for us. Just not very efficient, and he came in billed as a good defender, but good defense wasn't part of our culture at the time, so it wasn't very obvious how good a defender he truly was. It was also speculated that he could run the point some, and maybe he could in the Mountain West, but was never able to demonstrate that ability for us. He had a sit out year, so the hype around him was pretty big at the time. Just disappointing on all fronts, when in all honesty, he probably would have fit in better in, say, TJ's system than in Prohms. I don't think he was really that bad of a player. Just kind of mis-handled by Prohm, as so many were.

Jeff Beverly may be the only one more disappointing. Bryce Dejean-Jones (RIP) was a tad underwhelming too, but mostly for non-basketball reasons. Lucca Staiger never really lived up to the hype IMO.

Solid reference with Bluford. He lasted all of what, one semester at ISU? I remember there was some thinking he would fit really well in Hoiball.
I think the general feeling was he had potential to be Tyrus McGee-type JUCO transfer.

Sherron Dorsey-Walker is another much hyped Hoiball fit that never made an impact. Really good offer list, Detroit pipeline, seemed to have all the tools. He was a Cornell Mann guy tho, not a TJ guy.

If you go back and look at how the guys TJ brought in fared overall vs. everyone else, you gotta feel good about having TJ in charge going forward for that reason alone.

Is there a compiled list of primary recruiters for some of those teams? Probably exists, but I don't know where to find it.

I sure do hope so. The mind and the heart is certainly willing with this team, but I am a little concerned about the legs at the moment.

It's completely understandable if the Big 12 grind is wearing us down, first physically and then mentally. Raw athleticism, in of itself, can help a team overcome this particular problem, and it's not that we are unathletic by any means. However, I think its fair to say our opponents are probably generally more athletic than us to varying degrees at key spots more often than not.

That's not to say we aren't the better team more often than not, either. I think we are firmly better than WVU, OSU, Mizzou, and Tech, for example. Anytime, anywhere. And yet, here we are. Losing to those teams is one thing, but we just didn't look like ourselves at crucial moments, and I think "the grind" explains why we seeing this downtrend now and not then.

You have guys like Holmes, Shoon, and Lipsey, and King trying to navigate that grind, with no room for error, twice a week for the first time. Gabe needs to keep scoring at or near an all-conferece level. Grill is hurt, Jaz is shaking off rust, Bob is Bob.

That being said, let's just go get this one. Hilton Magic time.

LOL. Caleb 3 of 14 for 8 points in our last 3 games vs TCU (3/18 career if you count his appearances as a frosh 3 years ago). Gabe averaging almost 10 but had a Bad Gabe 1-10 in Ames last year.

More than a little concerned about the crowd. Weather looks dicey, and lots of tix up for sale.
Looking at the forecast for Ames and it seems the snow won’t come till early morning. But definitely don’t blame people for trying to stay safe. Hopefully everyone that is there will pick up the slack a little bit and be extra loud
