I'm sure others have noticed, but ISU has a depth issue. The starters play the vast majority of most games, along with 3 reserves (2 non-starters now that Grill is out). And when those 7 or 8 players are not shooting well, there are no other options. Couple the increased minutes the 5 starters play, plus the 2-3 reserves, and the though defense and practices TJ asks of them, they often times play and look tired, a step slow. The long B12 season can take a toll.

Hopefully, the next 2-4 years will show an increased talent level, not only with the starters but with the bench. It would be nice to have 9-10 players routinely contributing game minutes, even just 2-5', in years to come. Or, more than likely, with TJ and our level of recruiting/NIL, will we continue to mostly only play 7-8 players? Does that seem to be the history for ISU also?

Contrast some of the teams in the SEC. Many of those teams seem to play 9-10 players, significant minutes. Case in point, Alabama (top 3 team of late), 3 recent games:

yep this team is tired. When we played on a Monday a few weeks back, we got the rest of the week off and when we played KU, the team looked fresh and full of energy, we smoked them. But when we do the Saturday/Monday thing, the Monday game is a guaranteed loss. Not sure what goes on at practice, I can't speak to that, I would hope that coached and the rest of the staff are sharp enough in this day and age to have a pulse on the teams cumulative fatigue level and adjust work load accordingly. Working hard is important, but so is working smart when it comes to physical capacity. I'm jealous of the Arizona Wildcats, they get this whole entire week off, should make them fresh for the stretch run. To bad the Big 12 can't fit something like that in, our team needs it.

Grill's injury has hurt depth, but an 8-man rotation is pretty standard, plus Watson getting a few minutes. I don't see depth as an important issue, at least as compared to shooting and fouling.

We've done the Saturday/ Monday crossover exactly one time this whole season.

Last night: OO 5-7, TL 3-5, TK 3-4, RJ 3-4. If fact, these guys have been shooting pretty well for the last few games. ISU has other players that can make shots, and I don't think ISU needs GK, who has been in a multi-game shooting slump, launching double-digit 3pt attempts in consecutive games. Yeah, I know that RJ makes turnovers, but even if you count his turnovers as missed shots, he'd be shooting a better % than GK as of late.

I thought earlier in the year, that ISU's offense was getting some mid-range looks for GK and Kunc (which they were hitting), but those attempts seem to have largely vanished for both, and now both of them seem resigned to launching 3pt attempts. Kunc has had maybe 2 good shooting games since he's been back.

Certainly better shooters would help ISU, but I also think the coaching staff needs to do a better job of understanding and adjusting to where the players are right now. Between GK, JH, and AK, it seems that ISU is taking too many 3pt attempts in the past few games, and they don't need to do that.

Having virtually no one that can create off the dribble or really do much off the ball hurts this and the post is limited too.

Was at the game, holy hell that was bad.

They look worn out and not skilled enough to make any adjustments. There are sone lineups that TJ is putting out there that just have no chance right now. I get what he's doing but there are certain lineups we are playing that just aren't competitive.…..
Was hoping Jaz would be factor but he had a bad shooting night. Contested shots, bad shots, or just wasn’t on?

Somehow got the Longhorn Network. What amateurish ‘work’ they do.
Our Athletic Director said...(texas) ..."CAN'T LEAVE SOON ENOUGH"...I feel the same way that Jamie Pollard does, Texas has tried and in some respects has ruined the big xii conference!

Starting with Nebraska leaving for the Big Ten...You knew it was just a matter of time before texas/ & the okies left for more money elsewhere!!

GOODBYE & GOOD RIDDANCE TO BOTH SCHOOLS!!

Think everyone has to realize just how much of a success this season has already been.

Will be a #3-#5 seed in March Madness all while:

1. Playing in far and away the best conference in the country.
2. Losing your starting PG to a season ending injury before the season.
3. Starting a freshman at PG.
4. Losing your (analytically) most important player Jaz Kunc for two months.
5. Losing your best shooter and a top two perimeter defender for nearly half the B12.

Pretty incredible job by this staff and team.

Exactly. You but you missed one. You forgot to add the conference is very well coached and it is hard to beat the same team twice especially on the road.

What is awesome is that every Cyclone fan pretty much acknowledges this. What's even more awesome is the epic meltdowns of some when Iowa State loses a game because of 1 of those said 5 talking points occurred. Some days this place is just pure gold. The laughter actually helps me get over the "If the players and coaches only wanted it as bad as me and the kids do" that I pout about for a good day after a loss.

You left out ISU shooting 4-19 from three. Texa$ was 12-28. That was your ballgame.

well to win you have to coach both offense and defense Grill is messed up

You don't think they coach offense? Do you think they have the personnel to balance both effectively?

What would you do to make this team be better offensively based on things that exhist?
