ISU's last offensive play got blown up by a wide 3 man front.
A 3rd and 9 ?
In theory shouldn't happen... happens. Is it good offensive line play? Nope. Not in the slightest. But it happens. Especially when you have a DL that knows you are passing the ball and the pocket can't move.
So if you're offensive linemen is struggling to straight pass pro - which THEY ARE - move the pocket. What's been arguably our best play? Those little roll outs either to Burkle short or where we hit Higgins deeper. Stuff like that alleviates pressure off the OL because its harder for the defensive linemen to know the launching point.
Or god forbid, we actually decide to discover this amazing concept of a flubbing screen pass.
The offensive line is not playing great. To argue otherwise would be insane.
But, BUT importantly... what we are doing right now is basically this.
"Offensive line, what's going on, what's open?
"Coach, bootleg is wide open, maybe try running toss. They're coming hard tackle to tackle, we're struggling right now, we gotta slow them down and move the pocket some"
Our offensive game plan: " Run inside zone, maybe some G power and straight drop back"
Getting mad at the OL sucking at what they suck at is like me getting mad at myself for not looking like Brad Pitt. It might make me feel good at times, but it doesn't address the problem. Which is we're not doing anything to help them. We're taking what they are struggling with right now and saying "do that. Over and over again. If we do it enough, we're going to get good at it."
