Write a letter to Pollard.

Well played...I didn't follow my own '24 hour rule' before I posted...but tonight obviously upset me...win or lose I expect to see guys playing hard, and tonight for the last 20 minutes we did not.

Other than the first few minutes, I don't think we played great defense. But we didn't need to. They hit a bunch of three's, many of which were long and contested. Good for them. We still won by 20.

If you expect our admittedly weak bench to hold mediocre Div 1 starters to 30-35 points in a half, it's not going to happen. That our weak bench can still outscore those mediocre Div 1 opponents, is itself something positive.

I don't know what you guys expect. Prohm played Carter and Ashton with over 10 minutes left. I think that says a lot about everyone's mindset this game. Who cares? We won, and our starters got some good rest which will be nice going into Big 12 play. Man some of you I swear would complain if we went undefeated in the Big 12, but only beat Kansas at KU by 5.....

With Cook and Burton, I'd say our bench is very good, not weak. It's not very deep, though.

Carter and Ashton were the only non-regulars that played meaningful minutes, and both would be regulars at Coppin State. Coppin State isn't just bad, they are one of the very worst teams in America out of 351 D1 teams. Our regulars plus Carter and Ashton should ABSOLUTELY not give up 54 points in a half to a team like that.

Pomeroy ranked them 342 out of 351 teams. They came into tonight with 2 wins over DII schools, and have been curbstomped by every team with a pulse that they have played...those teams also played their benches.

Twice over. Sorry for my attempted intervention. Continue to embarrass yourself if you must.

Just because a team wins doesn't mean they played good..and just because a team loses, it doesn't mean they played bad.

It's not as black and white as people like yourself make it out to be.

Uh, Coppin State had A LOT of wide open threes. ISU's perimeter defense sucks. Is it just a fluke that a lot of teams go off on ISU from three? (three out of last 5 games 40% or better) If you give shooters a lot of open looks, they can get in a rhythm. When they do that, and you still don't guard them, they will start hitting everything. Even the contested ones.

We have played 3 out of the top 25 3 point shooting teams in the country already.

I don't think you can call our bench very good....Burton has been super impressive in his first 3 games, but Cooke has really struggled ( where is Thomasrickj to backup his claim that Hallice is better than Thomas in every phase of the game)...that's our bench....if Naz had been able to stay healthy and Matt was still our 6th man, than your statement may ring true...

teams like KU and West Virginia have very good benches....we have one really strong contributor with a very small sample size....

That's the first post you've made in this thread that was on the right track. A 20 point stomping is still a stomping whether you play at the top of your game or not. That needs to sink in.

Here nor there
I can't speak for others, but nothing upsets me more than poor effort..I've been a fan a long time and supported a lot of good teams, and a lot of bad teams...the thing that upsets me more than anything is when a team doesn't play hard, whether they're good, or whether they suck.
Sleep it off. You will feel better in the morning.

Good grief, conference play is going to rough for some of you.

I'm glad we won...but winning was a given going into that game. My judgement of that game was on how we played.

That's a team that lost to Eastern Kentucky by 27, Iowa by 35, Norfolk State by 32, (they scored 56 points in the entire game against Norfolk State as opposed to 54 in a half against us), Kansas State by 25, Fordham by 37, Cal by 33, and Creighton by 25. We were never going to lose that game.

It'd be interesting to see what their team 3 pt shooting percentages are for the year in games not played against ISU. There have been games this year where guys were going off despite what looked like good defense at the three point line. This was not one of those games.

I think about half the teams have shot better tan their season average, with Coppin St. And UNI obviously we're well over. With Haaland's points in the podcast in mind I also wonder about attempts for each team vs their season average, as that can be an indicator of good 3pt defense.

So so far ISU has pretty much held serve in terms of 3pt%, which is inline with our ranking in 3pt defense%, which has been between 150-200 nationally.

tonights defense was really good the first 10 mins, not so good the rest of the way, but some letdown is going to happen to most teams in a game like this. I don't think games like this are very good indicators of anything. It was good to get guys like Carter and Ashton extended minutes.
