Our bench played a total of 62 minutes...most of them in the 2nd half. It's not shocking that Coppin would drop 50+ points on us in the second half- a half where Ashton, Carter etc are playing for 10 minutes each. Idea during the second half was always to get some of the bench guys some playing time once we were well in control of the game.

I can't speak for others, but nothing upsets me more than poor effort..I've been a fan a long time and supported a lot of good teams, and a lot of bad teams...the thing that upsets me more than anything is when a team doesn't play hard, whether they're good, or whether they suck.

Step away bud. Come back when they lose to a ****** team.

So what are you saying? Do you have a line to the players where they tell you what % of effort they are giving on any given night? People can't differentiate between playing bad and not giving effort with this team.

We gave up 54 points in the second half...we stood and watched when shots went up, and we let their guards blow by us at will to free up open looks on the perimeter when we helped...it's fairly easy to differentiate.

Their far less talented players did whatever they wanted to against us in the second half on the offensive end of the court.

It'd be interesting to see what their team 3 pt shooting percentages are for the year in games not played against ISU. There have been games this year where guys were going off despite what looked like good defense at the three point line. This was not one of those games.
Did you not think we played good defense on the three point line tonight? If a team wants to take a deep and/or contested three we should let them.

If I've learned anything about these guys in the last few years it's that Fred didn't coach or teach defense or 3pt defense...at all. Prohm is having to try. I understand what u are saying about poor effort and I think one could argue that was the case vs APB but tonight actually this team came out to play to start and first 17 minutes or so we were up what? 30-11 at one point. Then Coppin decided screw it and start chucking up threes. Did u hear Prohm when asked in presser about the 3pt defense? He didn't seem all that ****** cause he said that's all they were doing was shooting threes and only so much u can do, then he said he was pleased overall with our defense. Coppin had 3 guys just on fire and it's all they would do. It's not like we weren't in defensive position at 19 feet just standing there. Most shots guys were down and playing D...shots just dropped. On to OU.

Yes...this, UNI and Iowa were just couple players who were just shooting lights out and couldn't miss. You guard to close they drive and you either foul or they drive by you.

This is the 3pt % teams have shot against us. I'd say u want to at least hold teams under 40%. There is only 3 games over 40% and those 2 games UNI and Coppin were just hitting ridiculous shots.

Chicago st- 27%
Chattanooga- 25%
Colorado- 37%
VT- 20%
Illinois- 38%
NDSU- 26%
Buffalo- 26%
Iowa- 40%
APB- 30%
UNI- 59%
Cinnci- 33%
Coppin- 56%

Don't go throwing facts into this. Seriously, if you are worried by anything related to this game, it's a you problem.

This. If we wanted to we could have kept the rotation guys in all game and won by more than 20 and held them to less than 84 and then maybe, just maybe people would quit ******** about a blowout win.

Right. And when u guard a guy 25 feet from the basket like we started to do then u get blown by. Don't care if u are Allen Iverson playing defense. So what do u want? Should we closely guard guys at 25 feet and pray we don't foul Guys out for grabbing guy when he blows by us or back off a bit and he shoots a 23 footer? Because it's rare to have players that can truly guard all game at 25 feet and not get beat.

Some of you guys are never happy. If ISU went out and played a shutout, you'd say it reckless to risk our players like that and that they should have taken it easy.

Also if some of these people won the lottery and got 10 million they would ***** that it wasn't 20 million.

No, then people would whine that we were risking injury to our starters when there was no need to. And we were not giving bench players enough practice before the incredibly difficult conference games begin!

And the 'fan police' are out...

Sorry for thinking we'd see a little better effort than that.

Some of you don't get it. When all a team does is set screens out top and shoot 23-27 foot threes and shooters are hot it doesn't matter what team u play for or what division...there's not a lot u can do when 2-3 guys just are in rythym and feeling it. Game really should have been a 40-50 pt blow out but when u lose interest and the other team can't miss threes it stays closer than it should.

Uh, Coppin State had A LOT of wide open threes. ISU's perimeter defense sucks. Is it just a fluke that a lot of teams go off on ISU from three? (three out of last 5 games 40% or better) If you give shooters a lot of open looks, they can get in a rhythm. When they do that, and you still don't guard them, they will start hitting everything. Even the contested ones.

Effort is just difficult to judge. Almost every guy at this level plays plenty hard, and it's hard to say if it's a mental effort or fatigue or whatever.

Glad I listened to this game on XM radio in the car and not at home posting on this board during commercials.

Good grief. Some of you remind me of Nebraska football fans in the 80s and 90s who were legit suicidal if they didn't beat a bad football team by 50+.

Most (not all) of their 3's came off of kickouts from penetration...'what I want' is for us to start staying in front of people on the defensive end of the court...the way you make it sound by this post, every team in the country should either be able to get into the paint or get an open 3 nearly every time down the court, regardless of talent level, or who they are playing against...contrary to what you saw the last 25 minutes tonight, that does not need to be the case.

People can't honestly think we played good defense tonight, can they???
