I know people have mentioned the clock not running at the end of the game, but here’s a clip that really shows how the clock operator saved a second or two for the Hawkeyes at the end of the game.

Of course Porter is happy they did that. :)

It doesn't make sense that the clock operator would wait to start the clock on the kick return, and then also let it run out even though there was objectively 1 second left.

Eh, much more likely they review the stopping of the clock opposed to the starting of it. Might have thought if he let it run out it would look like he has no favorite, while knowing that would be reviewed & a second added back.

Second half:
- Feelin good about our ability to run the ball. Offensive line is PUSHING Iowa. I've been looking for our line to push anyone for a few years now and it's happening against Iowa. Jaylin Jackson is a fantastic add to the RB group. I was worried about an injury to Sama really hurting the team but with Hanson and Jackson and Sama, I like our outlook in the run game.
- Kickoffs are mostly touchbacks, doesn't seem like much but a few years ago we couldn't buy a touchback to save our lives. Yes WetJet (tm) had a few good returns.
- we brought a lot of corner blitzes in this game which was a double edged sword. Against the run it was a big risk
- Bechts ball to Noel for the 75 yd TD was a thing a beauty. Protection was great, Becht just floated up an easy-to-catch ball right in stride.
- As bad as the beginning of the game looked, the end of the game was nearly flawless. Iowa's OLine was double teaming Orange and Singleton was making hay.

Ok, so at first I wasn't very worked up about the end of game clock stuff. But I am now.

I hand-timed the clock starting at 40 seconds (because the ref explicitly set the clock to 40 seconds at that time). Before the camera cut away, the clock said 5 after the FG was made. At that point, my timing and the clock on the broadcast agreed. So no worries up until after the FG was made.

They then added 1 second to the clock. That doesn't seem right by what I can tell. But okay.

At that point it's 6.00 seconds left. The rest is easy. Start a countdown timer at 6 seconds and start it when he catches the ball. I've done it 3 times now. Every time, the timer goes off before the guy goes out of bounds and it's not particularly close.

Very glad it ended up with an INT for Porter, otherwise we'd have to have another letter for our apology wall.

Things were a mess and Iowa likely gave a little vs. covering anything else up but oddly I was encouraged on iirc ISU's first possession of the game when Rocco went silent snap or similar to just QB dive forward.

There was a bit of push there and for all intensive purposes the play was executed fairly well to at least not be so backed up.

Gotta love the English language. :D

It's the lawyers fault!

Lawyers Love Their Words

Like most confusing parts of our modern life, it all started with lawyers. “For all intents and purposes” comes from the 16th-century English legal phrase “to all intents, constructions, and purposes.” It means “in every functional purpose” and helps lawyers cover their bases in legal agreements.

Somewhat overlooked, on our first TD drive, Hansen caught a pass, then fumbled as he got tackled. He fumbled back toward the field so that was going to be Hawkeye ball. But a break for us, another Hawk defender was coming over to help and hit the ball out of bounds with his leg. In hindsight, that lucky bounce let us score and eventually win.

I'm much more an Iowa State basketball fan than football fan (big football fan, just don't really follow ISU football that much) but I couldn't help but to root for you guys, What a massive and unexpected win after that 1st half. That kicker with balls of steel to crush that one.
