Why does anyone care about Iowa schedule? We control our own destiny to the big 12 championship and it's November. Who cares ?
And that is exactly the reason the @SEIOWA CLONE and @ZRF of this site are lashing out.

We need to show some compassion in understanding how much they are suffering right now.. They'll feel better if/when we take a loss.

I don’t think this is true. They played Bowman the whole game I thought??? Bowman is who played as qb1 ever since our game, so I’d argue we played against their best qb
Yea but he didn't play as much in games leading up to our game with them so he wasn't in a groove yet.

Never mind that he has been playing for about 10 years.

Maybe the naysayers should take that angel when arguing Ok St isn't good - they are relying on a veteran QB in the twilight of his career.

There’s like 2.5 legitimate P5 QBs in that entire division. It is laughable. Iowa’s D is good, but getting to play 4 games against teams that basically don’t field a QB really makes them look better than they are.
Is it possible that the Sukeyes could lose 2 yet? I could see it, the D gets a lot of media suck up but they are not elite. Punter just gets alot of ideal situations and delivers.

I can see kkkirk taking the bye week and installing a couple schemes to wildcat dejean , even though he said he wouldn’t. He’s certainly the most talented kid on that roster.
Without him picking up critical 1st downs late in the games they have left, they’re very vulnerable.
With The current offensive situation they have….probably can’t score 14 points in any game they have left….. that gives them 2 losses….IMO.

They could lose any game on the schedule with their current QB play.

Kirk has too much ego to put DeJean at QB in a wildcat. The fans are calling for it and he doesn’t make changes based on what fans want. And if he gets hurt or is limited on D and PR it really changes their identity.

Everybody was overreacting to one terrible week by Okie State. Plus Iowa media wanted to dismiss the win. People were seriously claiming they were the worst p5 team in the country, even though they had a road win at ASU.

Parents weren't there but I've been to the Gateway when the team stayed there so you'd see them walking around throughout the night and morning.

They carried themselves very well but you could also sense that they were just as dorky as many other college students and it put things at a very human level.

We as fans want things to go well and it can be frustrating or stressful as a spectator but I don't think we have any idea just how much goes into what these players do.
This is why I love the videos we sometimes see of players "interviewing" other players. They're kids (well, comparatively speaking) playing a game they love, in part for our entertainment.

I’m convinced some people would rather we lose so they can show off how smart they are with their amazing and completely unique gift of hindsight.

It’s not as fun when we win because they can only use hindsight to show how things should have gone wrong and how we won in spite of all our deficiencies that were obvious to everyone after the game happened.

Iowa State is still getting better but had they executed more cleanly they would have blown them out. I think it's splitting hairs to complain about mistakes at this point. They're very young and they're going to make mistakes. They're also winning and winning is all that matters.

We don't play in a vacuum. Baylor---even if they are a terrible team---tries. They have some affect on mistakes we make as well.

Last year Iowa State was not a good team, but they kept things close.

That has to be one of the dumbest comments I have seen on here in a while. The hyperbole of the board sometimes is out of this world. My first comment about the game was what a great victory it was, we missed a couple of passes, but we went on the road and won.

That has now morphed into I am only happy when ISU loses? You can enjoy wins, and still understand, that while they are wins, we are not beating very good teams. Yes, it's better to win than get beat, but let's be real here, the schedule gets tougher from here on out and I think many of us would be very happy to go 2-2 over that stretch.

You are starting to sound like an Iowa fan, playing crappy teams in your division and talking crap about what great wins they are.

Just addressing the pressure piece of this, I saw a stat today that definitely surprised me. Iowa State was actually third in the Big 12 in defensive pressures on passing plays (behind OU and Texas) coming in to today. At the same time, the defense is last in sacks, but pressures are still useful in rushing passes. Maybe the front 7 has gotten more pressure than it seems like they have.

Data: https://www.cfb-graphs.com/def_qb_table (type BIG12 in search box to filter)

Thanks for the link to data table. Agree it is interesting that ISU ranks in top quartile (T29th) among FBS programs for QB pressures.

Overall ISU's pass defense ranks high in most metric except 2.

We are tied 2nd worst in the country for QB sacks at 6. My take is twofold. First we are lacking that high level pass rushing DE. Can't always expect to have a Will McDonald type player, but we miss an MJ Anderson level guy. Second, our blitzers are whiffing way too often. Seems to happen at least once per game. If we get those sacks- we'd be average in sacks among FBS teams.

The other stat where ISU's defense is weak is ADOT (Average Depth of Target), 12th worst among FBS at 9.7 yards. IMO it indicates opposing QB's are getting time to throw the ball downfield. So, are we getting pressure on QB, but they are able to hold onto the ball and allow plays to develop?

It would be interesting to see a statistic for seconds a QB has to throw.

I don't really think Rocco was that bad overall. But obviously he had 4-5 bad plays (the two TD overthrows, the interception, and at least 1-2 more near INTs). Coming from a redshirt freshman though, it happens, especially on a rainy day on the road. I especially don't expect him to miss those easy TDs moving forward.

To have those misses, plus a couple missed opportunities defensively, and still win by 12 on the road against a Big 12 team is still something worth appreciating. Yes, I know Baylor is not a good football team, but I think they're more like your run-of-the mill non-bowl team than they are like Kansas in the 2010s.
Agree on Rocco. Don't feel he played a bad game, but a couple key completions and he could have had a great game.

His accuracy was off a bit on throws, was it rain/wet conditions? He had 2 bad plays that stand out, the interception and fumbled snap on 3rd & 1. Then his missed throws to Higgins and Jackson could have resulted in TD's.

One area he has consistently been weak over the season is under throwing fade routes in the end zone. Fortunately, I don't believe any have been intercepted.
