I am grateful for the "must win" today.
I am a bit disappointed we didn't stomp on their throat when we could have.

and I know we can not change the past, but my gosh, Ohio and Iowa are head scratching right now. Hard to believe we beat Ohio, we are bowl eligible.

we have 4 games to win 1. No remaining games are easy. BYU on the road is not an easy game.
We are two missed feild goals in the Ohio game from being bowl eligible. Hope we can get one more win over the next 4 games.

Have to love as a fan punking Baylor on their homecoming game. Have always despised that program even though Aranda seems like a standup guy.

Defense
  • The great tackle behind the line by Caleb Bacon on their 2 point conversion try was an underrated big play moment I thought. Flipped momentum.
  • #47 freshman Kooper Ebel. No he did not post crazy stats. Yes - I am super excited to see him play more, he at 6"4 , 225 lbs and quick feet looks like a AJ Klein/MIke Rose talent. He's going to be good.
  • Joey Peterson DE was a badass this afternoon. One fumble recovery, a good tackle for loss, and even a special teams tackle. Grinder hard nosed player.
  • Today was Jack Sadowski's best game as a cyclone. Will McLaughlin was also really good.
  • The defense was strong tonight and didn't have to be elite, the offense was so efficient it made it easier on them.
  • Thankfully Tampa will be able to play starting in the second half against KU. I would've hated if he missed that whole game
  • The Malik Verdon pick was oh so pretty, what a player
Offense
  • Scheelhaase is in a groove fellas. 240 passing about, and 160 yards rushing, that is some sweet balance.
  • Good for C. Norton, two TD's and I absolutely loved the Wing T formation for him near the goalline. To me he's great in short yardage packages.
  • I still like Eli Sanders to get the lion's share of carries and majority of first down carries. He is becoming really efficient at getting 5 yds a carry lately.
  • O Line and Tight Ends: Brendan Black playing more, Jim Bonifas getting more confidence at center, Tyler Miller finding more of a mean streak. It's just been a total attitude transformation for these guys. Claton is worth every dollar. And Mouser is getting good blocking out of TE's, especially Dean and Klotz.
  • We have a formidable two headed monster at WR with Higgins and Noel. If D's key in on one, one tends to be open.
  • Rocco is just a great decision maker, quick release, and accurate. (reminds us of another cyclone QB a little doesn't it?) His only bad play was the one pick. The TD to Higgins in the first quarter was an absolute beauty.
Let's beat blue chicken next week.
Rocco missed two guys that couldn’t be more wide open and need to be completions and both would’ve been TDs.

But despite a bit of a rough day, he’s done a hell of a job this year, and I’m glad he’s our QB.

OL is really coming along, and Sanders has made terrific improvement.

I don't care HOW bad the 4 teams we've beat are. A month ago, we thought we were bad. And we've beat 3 of 4 by more than one score. And the other was a solid win.

I'm thrilled for the players.
So, we have a B10 West type of schedule, as long as we keep winning, it does not matter. EIU has made a killing off schedules just like ours this year for a decade or more.
Regarding our Big 12 schedule, at the beginning of the year, it was rated as one of the hardest (in conference and country iirc). You play the games on your schedule. Ours is still very challenging and we only get 4 home conference games. That's a tough schedule. The 2021 team didn't do as well (up to now) with only 4 home games. 5 home games in '21 could have accounted for 2 more wins. Last years team didn't do so well with 5 home conference games. 4 tough games left.
Big10 West schedule with Ohio State and Penn State included (since Oklahoma and Texas are on the Cyclone schedule).
Thank you.

Blah blah…I’m getting tired of the dooms day that so many of Cyfanatics try to portray. ISU is playing extremely well and still aren’t even close to playing perfect. Enjoy the ride no matter how far it takes us.

Do you watch the ******* games?

The Big 12 is TERRIBLE this year. We've played UNI, Ohio, Iowa, OSU, TCU, Baylor, OU, and Cinci. All but maybe OSU, who might be coming around, have less than stellar teams and many of those offenses are ATROCIOUS. Our secondary is phenomenal and that combination, of weak competition and a stellar secondary, has been good enough to give us good 'stats'.

Instead of being a jagoff actually addresss what was stated: the LBs and d front are weak and Heacock often allows teams way too much time to throw by rushing 3 guys. When we get burnt it's almost always when rushing 3, with the QB having ample time, and when we make plays its often when we bring pressure. And the one game we played a known good offense? OU destroyed us and it all started in the front 6. The LBs CONSTANTLY crashed into blockers instead of using their hands to shed and we often gave up contain. Pressure was non-existent and OU brutalized us in the middle of the field voids between the secondary and LBs. Why? Our LBs lack thr athleticism to drop back in coverage.

Is Heacock the problem? No. But I'm tired of idiotic fans like yourself dismissing legimate gripes without even assessing the validity of those concerns. Instead they cite empty stats without context.

We have an elite secondary but we also deploy a scheme that mitigates our strength (secondary) without mitigating our weakness (LBS). Our front isn't good but I'd add a man to Onyedum, Orange, Peterson etc and put money on a4-2-5 being more effective than the 3-3. Our LBs are THAT bad.

Anyone in d3nial should go back and watch tape. It's even more glaring if you go back and watch guys like Rose tackle, read, and drop into coverage then watch this group. Yikes.
Lol

I thought it was a little predictable, but I agree, I get why it was called. Getting him to the outside where our DBs weren't interested in tackling him would've been a better call, but I get it.

I'm not sure, but I think the math supported all of Aranda's 2-point calls. Down 15, you have to get a two-point conversion at some point, so the thought is that you do it right away, so you know what you have to do regardless of the outcome.
I'm not so sure if he shouldn't have kicked that extra point after scoring to cut it to 9. The extra point would have least made it a one score game. Failing the 2 pt conversion kept it a 2 score game.

What I am saying is that our schedule so far this season, has not been as difficult as it looked like it was going to be. TCU is horrible as is Cinn, we got OSU when they were struggling at the start of the year, and Baylor is not a very good team either. The only conference team we have played so far that is above decent is OU.
Now after saying that we are hitting the hardest part of the schedule, KU, and UT at home and at BYU and KSU.

The big difference is last year we would keep it close and lose in the end, this year we are finding a way to win those game.

Both decisions were appalling for different reasons

3 out of 4 have been multi-score wins. That's a little more than finding a way.
