If Texas isn't ranked tonight the Alamo Bowl isn't going to select them. They have a significant streak of top 25 teams playing... San Antonio embraces the Alamo Bowl and selecting Texas would be a massive blow to economic potential. Either OSU or K-State will be in the Alamo Bowl if OU makes the playoff.

Absolutely. And Texas is not falling past the Camping World bowl if Alamo passes. The ONLY scenario where ISU ends up in Orlando is with Texas getting the Alamo and the Camping World ignoring a ranked match-up.

It's just not gonna happen. Liberty or Cheese. Maybe an outside chance of the Texas Bowl

60% Liberty
30% Cheese
10% Texas

Playoff will lose money as Utah will drive down ratings. I don't necessarily agree, but he's absolutely right that OU has more name brand than Utah

I don't necessarily agree. People are going to watch the playoffs for OSU, LSU and Clemson, the 4th team is just a placeholder for OSU to steamroll. The fourth team won't drive viewers down, but having Utah there may add west coast/PAC12 fans.

I might be confused but we're discussing the playoff, correct? If Utah and OU win out one of them has a shot at the fourth playoff slot but it will be Utah based on their current rank above OU, right?

Yes, but OU is very likely to jump Utah tonight. Dave Bartoo's model has that and he has the committee nailed.

That makes no sense. Of course the 4th team is going to impact eyeballs.

If Utah wins, UGA loses and Utah is ranked ahead of OU in 4th then Utah will be in the playoff. Just cheer for Oregon to beat Utah Friday night, LSU to beat UGA and OU to beat Baylor so OU gets in the playoff.

The committee positioned Utah and Oregon to have a shot at getting in but at this point you can't put Utah in ahead of OU. At this point the resumes aren't even close.

Yes and no. OU can and will still jump Utah if they beat Baylor on Saturday. I actually wouldn't be shocked to see OU 5 and Utah 6 tonight.

I don't think Oregon has to beat Utah for OU to be in. OU is going to play a higher ranked team than Utah this week. All OU has to do is win and LSU has to beat Georgia for OU to be in. Oregon losing to ASU really hurt Utah's chances as messed up as that sounds.

You like cold and rainy weather? That's what it has been the last 2 times in Memphis.

With sites like Memphis, you run the risk for cruddy weather in late December, no getting around that. There’s a chance it could be an outlier for hot & dry, too -- if not likely. Just because previous two bowls were less-than-ideal (and no doubt worse than average) doesn’t mean it’s always going to happen.

I was curious and checked the averages. Used full month of December, not enough time to try to find by-date numbers. No surprise, Memphis is worst of the four locations, by an uncomfortable margin.

Daily high/low in December for the bowl cities:
Houston 64/45
Memphis 52/38
Orlando 73/52
Phoenix 67/45

Precipitation days, December (monthly rainfall, inches)
(no surprise which city has the least!)
Houston 10 (3.7)
Memphis 10 (5.7)
Orlando 7 (2.6)
Phoenix 3 (0.9)

Those numbers back up why I want Orlando or Phx and don't want Memphis.

you all are better fans than me.

I will happily go to Phoenix or Houston. I love my Cyclones, but I won't go to Memphis.
