I’ve not seen him look like this with the ball in his hands all year or at least since conference play. It’s in there. But will it come back?

He's just got to be in a super bad funk right now. Last year at UNI he averaged 13 PPG shooting 46%. He is capable of being an offensive threat, just needs his confidence back.

Starting with the WV game, teams have been allowed to restrict our freedom of movement for our guards. They're forcing our guards to drive and then just collapse on them and foul. To the refs, that's just the old "driving into a crowd" no foul call. Frustrating.
ISU guards restrict movement of guys going around screens and our bigs initiate contact with hips and violate the cylinder on every trap. Yet other teams seem to be figuring out how to get good looks.

I agree to an extent, the combination of physical play allowed and consistent competition is taking an adjustment. The 5s are really struggling against the athletic and long bigs.

So many things to say here.

I have wondered about Schmidt for a long time.

Gilbert is a ball-dominant guard and makes the ball stick. When he gets a turnover or three, it completely saps his energy and he becomes passive and frankly bad.

Tamin and Jones aren’t the kind of athletes -height-wise, or athletically - that can get much on their own.

Jefferson still doesn’t understand that he’s the key to unlocking this team - or perhaps the staff doesn’t.

Everybody else is an offensive zero.

We really need Milan back, and even then it’s a flawed roster that usually gets the most out of average athletic talent that overachieves.
Agree that particularly without Milan, maybe with him, basing the offense around Jefferson is a way to make this offense cruise.

Though I like Lipsey and JJ in combo with the ball getting g into offense. Gilbert and Jones getting shots and driving opportunities off them.

Jefferson has had some turnover problems dribbling, but I think an offense w JJ as the 5 and Milan at the 4 has a high ceiling.

Was Jackson's best game vs. KU off the bench?

I wondered at the start of this one if this would be a good fit for him.

Just wanted to let everyone know that after our game I had tickets to the UNT-UTSA game in Denton, TX. My wife works for UNT and figured we'd have a good time at the game. Well, guess what other team also lost at home to a 9-11 team?

JFC, I must be cursed. Lost TWO home games today to 9-11 teams.
I have to ask, where were you on 9-11?

Team needs Milan back to help spacing, our guards aren't playing together. Too much hero ball and not enough passing. Our bigs aren't moving their feet. Got bashed for mentioning Jefferson doing it against Arizona. Way too many offensive rebounds because of it. All can be fixed. I think the team bought into the hype and regressed in their intensity.
The regular season is 2/3 over. Teams are rapidly getting to the you-are-who-you-are stage, if they aren't there already. With the schedule grind, there isn't much time left to fix fundamental things like not moving your feet and rebounding. If there are some attitude issues causing problems, there may be a better chance to improve those, as opposed to fundamental things.

In college hoops, teams get hot/in a funk at all different times of the season. Look at all the teams who have average seasons but get hot in their conf tourney and continue that into the NCAA Tourney with a deep run.

We've yet to play our best basketball yet and that definitely won't be possible until MM is back. The reg season bleeds into almost the 2nd week in March now with the conference tourneys squarely into the second week. We have a full month and a half to get it going again, and games left vs marquee teams.

I think the ceiling is still very high for this team wherever we finish in the reg season conference standings.

Football was a similar story for much of the year, we hadn't put together a complete game yet. At some point you simply are who you've shown you are.

Why is it that "who we are" is the KSU game and not KU, Marquette, etc.?
I will reiterate from the thread I started:
UCONN lost 6 of 8 mid-season 2022-23 and went on to win the national championship. I do not expect the Cyclones to win it all, but I believe they are very capable of bouncing back to be a legit final 4 contender.

Maybe you only noticed it now after the terrible loss but CFers have been saying ~ "we haven't played a complete game yet" for weeks.

Way up there
Our only good big is Jefferson. We have been fooling ourselves on the other two.
He's really good but the last two games were really tough matchups for him. Townsend from Arizona is a smaller quicker version of Jefferson and Hawkins from K State's length shut him down. When he isn't going, our offense isn't the same. We especially need him to get to free their line when the offense gets stagnant.
