It's even more funny when you realize Iowa gave up 71 to them
It is hilarious. The Hawkeyes are never gonna change until Fran takes his ball and goes home. Horrendous defense, good-enough offense, family ties, and first weekend exits in March. This is Hawkeye Basketball.

I think this team's defense will be better than last. Same general scheme, but it's faster and lengthier. And appears to rebound better.

Offense still needs a little work, but this good of defense will allow that time to work in games.

I think we'll do a lot better job of scoring this year, even if not a better shooting team. Offensive rebounds, getting to the FT line and making FT will all help avoid the scoring droughts.
Agreed. Having a legitimate scoring threat in the post will help as well.

We're in the toughest BB conference, so we're going to be out-talented plenty of times, but I think we're going to continue being a team that nobody wants to face. If our offense can limit turnovers, get into the lane, and knock down an occasional three to keep the defense honest, I think we'll have a helluva year.

Interesting that Lipsey hasn't attempted a 3 yet through two games. He was much more aggressive in this game driving to the hoop, but he will need to be respected as at least a threat to shoot from 3 later in the year. We can't have 3 guys who don't shoot threes (Lipsey, Ward, Jones) on the floor at the same time!

If Shoon can be a threat to shoot, that definitely helps, loved seeing that shot go in

I was at the game yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised with our athleticism around the rim and not surprised with our struggles at times to finish around the rim. This team gives a ton of effort, which is nice to see again this year. Lipsey looked solid, but wasn't exactly being tested by high end D1 talent either. Regardless, he made the correct play most of the time and delivered the ball on time more often than not. He looks like he's built for the Big 12 already, which is nice to see in a freshman guard. As the season goes on and the meat grinder of a Big 12 season is in full swing, he'll have to become more of an offensive threat. Teams will start giving him opportunities to make shots and he's going to have to knock them down.

The one big thing I took away was we seem to be a much better team with Jaz on the court. I haven't looked at the advanced statistics, but I would be surprised if we aren't a substantially better team statistically when he's on the court. The guy makes winning play after winning play.

Offense will be better this year. Elite like the defense? No but substantially better…. they have more options at more positions then they did last year. If a few guys have off shooting nights that will not make or break things like it did last year. The ability to rebound the basketball and get to the free throw line alone will make things better even if nothing else improved (which it has).

This should be noticed by casual fans more and more as the year goes on but until then many people will continue talking points from last year’s squad and projecting it on this year squad.

Front court depth, more options offensively and a ceiling to be even more deadly defensively …equates to another successful year for TJ in my opinion. Ideally you would like one more guard but still a lot to be optimistic about.

The thing I admire most about this staff is their ability to get their team to play hard and execute on almost a military level ….especially early on in the season. That’s not easy to do and I think that factor alone will separate them from a lot of programs as the staff moves forward.

What's even more fun is that our teams are built to beat teams like Frans. Should be a decent amount of Hawkeye tears in the future

I would guess Osun shooting a 3 isn't ideal from the coaching staff but 1) he must have some sort of green light occasionally and 2) I thought his shot looked good.

Even if it doesn't go well, Portland will be really good for this group.

If nothing else him hitting one is on film

Not certain about the offense. Brockington was one of the most clutch players ever to play at ISU. I see no replacement for him.
I do not see the go to guy down the stretch.
Love TJ and this team, but we will see how this plays out. Hope you are right - but I still have worries about them offense. We are not going to turnover anybody in the b12 like we did our first two opponents.

With how inconsistent these two have looked so far I would love to see a lineup of

Tamin
Holmes
Jaz
Tre
Osun

Once Tre is back
Where has Gabe been inconsistent so far? He has played very well so far this season. Grill has brought awesome energy, effort, and defense. I think sometimes we get so caught up on offense that we forget defense is our primary focus.
