For some reason, the waiting this year for this game has been excruciating. It's almost here. Go Cyclones!

The early Hoiberg years as coach when ISU opened on Friday night vs UConn and Notre Dame were my favorite time slots. I got to enjoy a full day and half of the tourney before being subject to March Madness stress. I'm good with Friday openers, and the later the better.

The times when ISU got ejected from the tourney early on Thursday, it really took away some of my enjoyment of the other games.

Another thought I have for ISU fandom and this covers many other programs is surviving the first weekend. When a non blue blood survives the opening 2 rounds its a fantastic week of sports media coverage you get to drink in. 4-5 days of sports radio bliss leading up to the sweet 16 game.

Pitt will come out hitting shots early and we'll end up in a 8-10 point hole, but our defense will wear them down and the good guys will dominate the second half. ISU 70-63

The closest KenPom rankings comparison to Pitt of a team Iowa State played this season is St. John's. Pitt at 77, SJ at 85. We beat them by double digits.

Feels like a game where we'll have to fight through a couple of hot streaks. Pitt can fill it up, but I think in the end they won't be able to handle our physicality, especially down low.

Semantics but the UConn '12 game was on a Thursday. A smoke alarm went out in my apartment and I had to check the score while we waited for the All Clear.

At the time it was just fun seeing ISU back in the tourney so I don't remember feeling all that nervous.

The '13 ND game was fun as hell. Friday and I went to a bar to watch and any weird upsets had already occurred.

After that gold tips disaster game, I have decided I like playing the first game on Friday. It makes one day of the tournament no stress and full of optimism.

Thanks, Rulzzz! Let’s hope you need to strike at midnight several more times this season. Go Cyclones!

I think a big key that no one has posted is:

- What officials do we have
- How is the game called in relation to how we like to play
- How do both teams adjust to said style of play and how the game is called

The first days games seemed to be more physical but maybe I'm just noticing a few instances. But It stuck out because it made me think it favored us if it continued to our game.
