OK, I'll get flamed for this, but here goes: There were some real positives to take away from this game. The Cyclones actually showed a running game. The receivers made catches. The o-line blocked effectively. The defense played well enough to win. Clean up the mistakes, particularly the penalties, and keep playing at the same level, and our team can win some games; not many, but some. 100+ yards in penalties lead to anomalous differences between the stat sheet and scoreboard. Yes I'm disappointed in the outcome, but not discouraged particularly with KU coming in 2 weeks.

Agree with Drednot57, this game was very winnable over a pretty good team and on the road. It is just very hard to win with as many penalties as we had, the missed short FG, mix ups on gaps by our LBs and safeties and so on. Could some of this be new players or the JUCO players not quite settled in? Who knows, but if we play with less mistakes we probably are 3-0 at this point. Play a clean game against KU we win by a comfortable margin. Also, think the league has not looked as formidable as years past.

On a totally different track, games like this will help us to have an impact across college football when the next TV contracts are negotiated. Networks are going to be a whole lot less willing to make sure every game is televised, because too many of those games are Iowa State-Toledo, Iowa State-Kansas, etc.

Don't fire him. Remove his coaching responsibilities and make him buy some seats in the new endzone. Require that to be paid, he has to sit and watch this **** like the rest of us. If he understands football at all, he'll quit after a quarter or two. What a friggin disappointment.

The outcome of the game barely moves the dial, but can at least PR remove long, 1 yard or less passes as the staple of tour offense?

Rhoads is done, and has been for several seasons. JP may be too much of an emotional bean-counter to fire him before a couple more failed seasons, but he is done.

Campos got brutalized all night, yet the cameras continue to show Mangino reading plays of that chat that equate to chuck and duck. We were a minor adjustment from putting 50 on the board yet it never came.

The selling point that got Rhoads the job and probably has given him a longer change than others, is that he was born within a half hour of campus. That's the extent of the resume at this point...

The two tackles for Toledo may play on Sunday after last night.

Especially when we're being ***** about it because we have our own "network" and trying to use that as leverage.

His best play of the game was when he tried to celebrate with Netten by picking him up after he missed what would've been the game winning field goal.

That pretty well summed up the entire night.

It was a mirthless chuckle I expelled after the missed FG as I knew we had blown it! Watching the kicker on the sideline laugh after that summed it up for me - apparently Charlie Brown football is alive and well in Ames! What a cf we have - forfeit the season and fire the entire football staff down to secretaries - obviously the rot has gotten all the way in.

The posts that say "just eliminate the penalties" and just "clean up our execution" and we are good to go are so awesome.

It's like saying a pitcher that gave up 10 hits and 7 runs but stuck out 6 is just a few mistakes away from pitching a shutout.
