I doubt Houston has the deepest of pockets on that front.

It's impossible to replicate the level of experience and cohesiveness they have together.

Then again... TJ manages to do it... and they did get LJ Cryer...

So maybe they'll just reload and we'll be right back where we started.
I think they've got pretty good size pockets down there for basketball. Since Sampson reinvigorated the program, the donations are up big time and they've got several great NIL deals. From the "Mattress Mack" owner who has a reportedly $1M dollar deal with them, to this new thing being reported: https://www.on3.com/nil/news/housto...inks-six-figure-nil-deal-with-loot8-lj-cryer/ to the billionaire Tillman Fertitta and his ongoing sponsorship and his outspoken support of NIL for Houston football and basketball, I think they've got a couple "whale" type donors we don't have.

ISU's We Will has greater collective support and more individual donors, I'd safely bet, but I wouldn't be surprised if Houston can purchase a few big names on the NIL market if Sampson wants them and has more money to splash around than we do....

Bottom line: as long as Sampson's there, I think they'll be tough.

Man our (Big 12) schedule is tough this year.

There was a report last night that Tech's center (I forget his name, their only big guy really) may not play.

I'm running sort of tangential to your post here, but I was thinking this morning how disappointed I was that KU wasn't one of our "protected rivals" or whatever in the new Big 12 scheduling. We are their biggest challenger until Houston proves they can keep this up in the Big 12. Maybe I'm just being a big homer here but I don't think it's too much of an exaggeration to say ISU has been KU's most consistently competitive rival in this conference and certainly in recent years. I would bet if you asked their fans, players, and coaches who are your two biggest rivals in this conference, most of them would say KSU and ISU.

Not playing @KU sucks. With the way tourney selection and seeding is done these days, that game only helps you. If you win it's your biggest win of the year, and if lose it doesn't matter, everyone loses there and if it's a close loss your metrics probably go up.

But someone has to be a "protected rival" for f***ing BYU to get the schedules to work out and of course it's ISU. I was hoping the Big 12 would say f***'em and make them and UCF play twice a year.

Agree with you that I wish we could play KU twice a year in hoops and that it doesn't hurt and can only help the metrics playing at KU. Oh well, this year Houston is one of those that it can only help the metrics game to play them twice since they're so good.

Maybe we'll get lucky in future years and this will change....

Are they keeping the protected rival thing with the addition of the corner schools next year? There's got to be some sort of a shake up. Arizona is going to make things interesting down the road. Another big dog in the hunt.

Not sure, but I'd imagine it will be revisited.

Forgot about 'zona. The new Big 12 will be crazy in basketball!

If it were to change we likely end up with Colorado as the protected basketball rival. It makes sense that BYU and UU get put together, and ASU and Arizona. That leaves CU unless other rivalries get shaken up.

I'd imagine the conference will try to make these rivalries more regional. Figure we'll lose BYU when Utah comes in. Hope we get our rivalry with OSU beefed up. That's one I've always liked. Some great games in about every sport between the 2 of us.

I forgot for a moment that OSU was losing their protected game next year. That'd be a good one for us. Who was Texas paired up with?

Judging from Texas schedules this year in basketball and football, I would guess it was OU and Houston.

I keep waiting for that 'lull' game to come around which would be understandable.

Will today be the day?

Tech will play tough.
