Ok, but this isn't going from $50k/year to $100k/year, or even $100k to $200k - it'd be what, $4 million to $8 million? Keeping in mind you already have $20+ (likely way more) million in the bank. And you'd be moving to an objectively worse city to raise a family, have less time to raise that family, and will likely be fired within 3 years. I think chasing the bag to only chase the bag is short-sighted in this scenario, particularly when you have enough money for your family to thrive for the rest of time already.

Edit: Sorry, can't read - now I see that you say you likely would PASS on that opportunity. I agree, no harm in taking the interview!

NCAA coaches salaries aren't going down - they might not continue to increase at these rates, but no current successful coach is getting a salary decrease anytime soon (if ever). Not only that, but the job security here is 100x that of the job security at these **** NFL teams. Would you prefer 10 years making $5 million, or 2 years making $8 million?

The "worse to raise a family" is a wildcard. Is Gilbert, Iowa (pop. 1,300) better than a wealthy upbringing in Lake Forest or a high end life with many social and economic opportunities in Chicago?

We aren't talking about shades of grey. Seems like different ends of the spectrum. Either can be great, but that's completely up to Campbell. The man has the luxury of options. We all have opinions about the choice, but it's completely up to Team Campbell.

Rumor was the draw of USC and SoCal was on his radar too. So different than Gilbert and Ames. So it's possible he is intrigued by it all

I can’t disagree, but still- the Bears are the AT&T of NFL franchises. It’s the last place I’d go if I were someone that gets NFL HC interviews.

Come on. The Bears suck and I'm all for shoving Chicagoland into the lake and abandoning this area, but

The Jets and Jags are still in the league (for now). The Bears are close to the bottom, but not quite there yet. I have faith they can hit the bottom soon

There's also the rumor that the other half of Team Campbell wanted f*ck all to do with that.

He can be a great college HC. But NFL gigs are a different animal. Very few get these jobs. Rhule would be the only recent example with no previous pro experience that I can think of. Did not work out well.
I’m very aware

A modern day Mount Rushmore of NCAA is also a Mount Rushmore of NFL failures.

Saban
Meyer
Spurrier
Etc

I am by no means saying CMC will be offered any job. Or that he should. Or that he will buck the trend and be successful in the nfl. Not at all.

My point is:

It’s a testament to his success as a coach to even be considered and ….if true…..asked to interview.

Matt was just on a recruiting visit in Michigan and offered a 2026 QB.. The kid posted it to Twitter this morning. I would think it's pretty obvious he's not going to be the Chicago Bears HC next season.

Well you don't quit recruiting for a job that you don't have. You have to keep doing your job until you are working another job. So this type of stuff never gives me any hints on what he might do. Fran just took a Miami transfer yesterday. I kind of think this is his last year at Iowa. However, if it's not he still needs players.

Yeah I agree Matt wouldn't just stop what he's doing and wait out the process, but it'd be pretty hard to meet that prospect and recruit him to come to your school if you're not going to be there. Fran leaving Iowa would be shocking though.

Anybody who thinks CMC would live in Chicago is a moron, suburbs are really nice and family friendly. Not saying he is going, but Iowa also has some #### holes too.

We could compete with the likes of Texas who was for years the wealthiest program in the country because there was only so much value they could get from their last few million dollars. They literally had to manufacture ways to unload some of that money. With the ability to pay players it shaves that last $20M off of everyone's war chest so it helps the richest of the rich get value again out of their historically bloated budgets. They have to be wildly enthusiastic about all of this.
@brett108, would you care to share why you think this is dumb?

The fact Poles is even entertaining going after a guy like Camobell just proves how completely incompetent that entire organization is. It needs to be gutted from the top down.
As a White Sox fan...I appreciate the Bears doing their "best" to make the White Sox look...how do I say this nicely...less dysfunctional by comparison than the White Sox really are! The Bears, White Sox, Bulls...even the Black Hawks "management" is just embarrassing!
