Seems there are two formulas to be a successful NFL head coach. Be an offensive guru who calls plays (Andy Reid, Matt LaFleur, Kyle Shannahan, Kevin O’Connell, Sean Payton, Sean McVay)

OR

Be a culture-first CEO (Belicheck, John Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin, Dan Campbell, Pete Carroll).

I think the Bears need the first kind of coach, and MC is definitely not that type. But even if they needed the second type, most of those guys came from the NFL ranks or at least had NFL experience. The culture guys from college (Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, etc.) all wash out real quick.

Campbell has zero NFL experience and I'm not even sure that there is a confirmation that he actually will interview at any of these places, more that he's on the list of candidates for the Jets and Bears

It’s easy to take for granted how ******* lucky we are to have two guys like MC and TJO in charge. Elite coaches who love ISU and want to be here.

What other programs are as fortunate? Are there even ANY (comparable) schools in a similar position?
Kansas. The basketball is self explanatory(pun intended) but they now have their guy for FB to. They had some downs this season but they will be right up there next year competing for the B12 in both sports.

This is really the only one I thought of that is a “no doubt about it”. Tennessee maybe?

Kentucky and Alabama were probably 1-2 before this year, but I don’t think you can rank them ahead of us now until we see a couple years of DeBoer (BAD start) and Pope (looks good).

I’m not saying we are definitely 2 or 3, but there is an argument to be made for us vs pretty much any program. I’ll say it’s easily a top 10 duo, maybe top 5.

Maybe he will, but the number of supposed "big donor" sources I've read about over the years that were complete wiffs leaves me unconcerned with that one.

Yeah, wasn't suggesting they would live downtown FFS. Even then, though, that'd be a what, minimum 2 hour roundtrip drive for him to/from work everyday? Just what every father is looking for, I'm sure!

Not every day. The practice facilities are in Lake Forest. He’d be able to get a great place near work.

Easy commute to ORD and the PWK/executive airport

Well, I left him off because he couldn’t sniff Spurrier’s jock! lol

Also Lou Holtz and Chip Kelly

Bobby Petrino and Lane Kiffin

All fabulously failed.
Ha, I’d forgot about Holtz. I wonder how Petrino ever got in position to get an NFL Head Coach job. What college head coach was successful in the NFL? Harbaugh, who else?

I think Campbell is a great coach and would probably do well there, but Chicago needs more of an offensive guru type. Someone like Sark or even Lincoln Riley would do. Or a McVay type. Chicago fans would riot if one of their teams hired another ISU coach.

Drew and Baylor, but as far as in both sports none that I can think of
