I wanted to create a thread to discuss some of the X's and O's for Oklahoma. We have a whole year of film from Lincoln Riley along with two solid offensive performances from this years OU team to break down. Curious is anyone has noticed anything specific to their offensive and defensive schemes, or alternatively if anyone has any general system break downs.

Not sure about their personnel overall since they played a Lane Kiffin team and a rebuilding UCLA team that wouldn't have been very good defensively anyway. I thought their defense was much better at taking angles and tackling than last year. Maybe Stoops is starting to feel the heat.

ISU will need to be better on both sides of the ball and way more crisp/timely and intelligent offensively.

What do we know about their run game? I thought it was criminal that Rodney Anderson was getting more hype than David Mongomery and Justice Hall, but if OU struggles to run it should play well if we drop into the 3-3-5 from last year. Rose looked good against Iowa, so i'm assuming they can spy him on Murray to keep him contained.

Did you watch Rodney Anderson? He is really, really good (as are Montgomery & Hill).

OU running game will still be good. Sermon ran for over 700 yards last year & Murray can run it.

And they have a slurry of 4 star RB’s on the roster.

It’s a typical OU team of late. Big, physical OL, good RB’s, speed on the outside & a QB that can get it to them.

It’s also a typical OU defense of late. Average at best, though they do look better so far this year.

I don't doubt he's great, and he's played well in a small sample, however I just didn't like seeing him getting more praise than two guys who have already shown it. If Sermon is starting it isn't really that much of a step down.

What did they bring back from last years D? I'm guessing we can contain OU's offense more effectively than FAU or UCLA, but I doubt we shut them out, so Offence will have to move the ball more than last week.

Rodney Anderson rushed for over 1,100 yards & 13 TD’s last year. Also had 280 receiving yards & 5 TD.

How hasn’t he shown it?

Their defense lost some good players but returned several DL, LB’s & DB’s. The thing is, they recruited very well there too. Youngsters playing that are probably upgrades.

Anderson was a very good RB, he is worth the hype, but he is out for the season with ACL injury. They have Sermon as well, plus other good RB’s - slowing them down will be extremely challenging. Hope we can hang with them to Get an upset. This team will be Big 12’s team...

I think the key is creating turnovers. They do a really good job of protecting their balls and always knowing where they're at on the field.

I think our defense keeps us in the game IF the offense can at least generate some drives to keep them rested. It's hard to imagine that we'll hold them totally in check, so the offense has to find a way to score at least 24 pts IMO.

This. I felt like Iowa State last weekend was an entirety different team. Did we try and play BIG football??? Defense shines on Saturday and if we can move the ball I think we win. Too much hype for this team hope I'm right.

I watched about half of the UCLA game and OU looked pretty solid, but only rushed for 180 yds; which some could have been attributed to RAnderson getting hurt. They seem very comfortable passing the ball and Murray, but their special teams and D will carry them.
If we don't get some improvement on O, it will be a long day.

To clarify on Rodney Anderson, he is very good. I just didn't like seeing some pre season rankings which made it sound like he is dramatically better than Hill or Montgomery. I think the three are fairly even, but Anderson had a huge advantage given the #1 pick in the NFL draft was throwing the ball in his offense, and obviously drew a lot of attention for Defenses.

As for their defensive players, it will be interesting to see if we can attack some of their inexperience in the LB position and secondary on the outside as well as last year.

Sure that helped Anderson, but I'd put him in the same category as DM & Hill.

I'm hoping ISU can attack some youth on the outside for OU. They returned a couple of pretty good LB's. Hopefully ISU can get some push up front on a fairly inexperienced DL. They aren't huge on the DL but obviously athletic.

Not sure what constitutes what a B1G team is, but ISU's going to need to be more of a controlled offense and good on defense, which is a good foundation no matter the conference.

Track meets don't favor a less talented team.

Track meets don’t favor the lesser track team. We’re nearly two decades in of lesser teams winning by making it a track meet.

We don’t need a controlled offense, we need an effective offense. There are many forms of that, but most don’t consist of trying to be vanilla behind a soft OL. The main thing we’ve controlled is INTs, but at what cost, and how much of that was Lazard?
