Our Omaha Tecmo Bowl & RBI Baseball tourney has attracted players from 11 states and Canada since 2016. A film maker (CJ Wallis: Perfect Bid - Price is right documentary) took interest with this event. He enjoys the information and depth of the Tecmo Bowl & RBI tutorials I post on twitter.

We spent the last few weeks contacting former NFL players(from Tecmo Bowl) and current sports media personalities to join in on the project. Most all were open to being apart of the film in some capacity. This event will focus on the July 23rd 2022 tourney. See the documentary teaser below. Please give a like on youtube. Enjoy!

Awesome that you have kept this going. Retro gaming is only getting bigger and bigger, I'm working on some retro game collectibles with a few companies. No connection with Tecmo or whomever now has Tecmo rights but I imagine Tecmo Bowl is a property that could really sell merchandise in addition to people continuing to buy the classic game on modern platforms, especially since it avoids NFL licensing issue.

I thought I had some Tecmo Bowl skills and a few years ago a cousin who must have played a lot more than me growing up just destroyed me.

Baseball Stars (NES or Neo Geo)...that's one where I can really mercilessly destroy player 2.

I see a lot of shirts on Ebay with the Tecmo Super Bowl helmets that are found on the standings screen. I have a few Tecmo Bowl shirts I've bought off Ebay. People have been cashing in on images of TB and TSB for over a decade now.

Tecmo is now called Tecmo Koei. I know the PR guy, I and sent the film maker his way to discuss rights for using certain things in this film such as the music from the game, etc. So far no issues out of Tecmo Koei.

Baseball Stars and RBI Baseball(1988 Nintendo) and the only 2 that are legit in the convo as best from the 8 bit era. Back then there were a slew of quality baseball games though, but those 2 typically are regarded as the best. Baseball must have been easier to program than other sports games.

Got our date confirmed for July 23rd in Omaha at DJs Dugout (114th & Dodge). RBI Baseball at 11 AM, Tecmo Bowl at 5 PM.

A former NFL players that's on Tecmo Bowl will be in attendance for the documentary and trophy presentation. We've got some notable sports media personalities involved. An ESPN college football sideline reporter already has his flight purchased. More of them to follow here in the near future. Can't wait to get closer and have some official announcements.

I'm working on some B-roll stuff at home for the film. Video below is a rough draft that tackles a lot of minutiae with run blocking assignments. Technical explanations I felt necessary to build up with to start with, so I can get to consequential meat of the strategies in the next segment. I have to plow through this again in the next few days for final version.


BTW, my pointer stick in that video is a back scratcher.

This video below won't be in the film but I plan to do something similar with a tour of my 80s NFL themed basement. The vid here was just a lure for a NFL historian to come out and spend a couple hours looking through the memorabilia before the tourney.


Got an email from some Canadians recently. A group of 6 are looking at attending to play RBI Baseball. That was their game back in college.

Official updates.

Jim McMahon will be the Tecmo Bowl championship trophy presenter.
ESPN sideline reporter/play by play guy Cole Cubelic and MLB Network's Adnan Virk will be competing.
More guests will be announced in the near future.
Cole will have a busy week. SEC football media days coverage that week followed immediately by this tourney.

My wife supports everything about it. Got some close friends that enjoy Tecmo Bowl as much as I do. Besides the Omaha event, a group of us travel around the US every so often for a tourney. When some of the most important people in your life are onboard, its easy to follow this path.

Tourney is this Saturday! Omaha area peeps, get to DJs (114th & Dodge) and check it out. Will be running from 11AM to 11 PM. Done a ton of work getting ready the last few weeks.

About Jim McMahon in attendance... The film producer is looking at McMahon being here from approximately 8PM on Saturday until the tourney finishes. That's based on the last email exchange we had a few days back. They are working on an autograph session for Jim and will set some prices for different memorabilia.

I have 6 or 7 Tecmo Bowl cartridges signed by players in the game. That's what I'll have Jim sign.



Currently sitting at 27 players for the RBI tourney and 32 for Tecmo Bowl.

A group of 4 from Canada are coming to play, along with an unrelated Canadian player making his 3rd trip here. Got a player from as far out as Alabama coming this year who is Cole Cubelic. He's a sideline reporter for ESPN CFB. Cole is covering SEC media days this week, then flying to Omaha for this event.

Probably not until spring of 2023 at the earliest. FortyFPS is a 3 person outfit, and CJ works with a hiphop label as well making videos and album covers. He doesn't really get to delegate much of his work, so they are neck deep in projects at all times.

Tecmo Super Bowl is the best game ever. Haven’t played it in years. Would love to get in a tournament at some point.
