For this segment, we seek your favorite albums released in 1997. With each choice, include up to 4 song samples from the LP.

A little story.

Was in England in Sept 1997 with a couple of my friends from ISU days. London and Liverpool. Our Beatles pilgrimage (plus a lot more)

We're in some fast food place a bit later than normal evening meal and this comes on in the joint. I knew the song but now every time I hear it I'm mentally there with my buddies.

I won’t post the go-to track from this (someone will nab as a single, post-haste). I liked/still like that song, but LP is unfairly linked to one-hit status. Maybe qualifies more as “underrated“ or under-appreciated … Segue between songs unifies the flow. (My samples don’t reflect that aspect, you have to listen front-to-back).

Back-story of how I encountered the album: Co-worker (and housemate for a few months) had the CD. One weekend when he was away, I was listening to music, and randomly sampled some of his collection. This was among it … when he returned, I said, “Y’know, that’s a solid album.” He said, “Do you want it? I don’t listen to it anymore.”

There were some good songs in between the crap on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack - I got the soundtrack just for these three and listened to them a lot:

I'm going to offer up something that's not necessarily my favorite (it was a good album), but something that has likely been long forgotten (both the music and the singer). If I Don't Stay The Night was the sophomore album by Mindy McCready, best known for her #1 country song "Guys Do It All The Time". She had shown so much promise with that debut album. The second album actually got good reviews, but didn't produce any big hits (the best being "You'll Never Know" which peaked at #19). She made other recordings over the next few years, but ultimately battled depression, drug abuse, and multiple suicide attempts which culminated in her death (self-inflicted gunshot wound) in 2013. Here are two of the singles from the second album:

This was my 3000th post on CF, by the way. Was kind of hoping it would be about Barbara Mandrell, but she retired in 1997 and had stopped recording a couple of years prior.
