The Beatles
“Rubber Soul”
(Dec. 3, 1965)

As good a place to start as any.

This is when the band’s approach began to change noticeably, songwriting and evolution of album-sound concept.

Using as few as I can, because I assume this’ll be a popular choice. I’ll stick to 3 for now. Could’ve chosen several triplicates.

One of my favorite George contributions within The Beatles

Not the strongest track on RS, but elements of it I like.

There are a large number of US Beatles fans who contend that the original US tracking of Rubber Soul is superior to the UK. Almost by accident, of course. I happen to be among them.

The biggest variation was the Stereo copies of the US pressings had this alternate version of I'm Looking Through You. This version leaves the two false starts on the beginning of the track. All other versions had it edited out, including the Mono US version.

The Basement Tapes (Bob Dylan and The Band) was released in 1975 although it was recorded around 1967 when they all lived in Woodstock NY. I only have time to post one so here's a Richard Manuel song (maybe R Robertson co-wrote):

It has been so long since I listened to US version, I had forgotten about the false start, even though that LP version was the first one I heard.

I also tend to think "I've Just Seen a Face" as opener fits the vibe of the album better than "Drive My Car." Partly that could be, again, having heard it that way first. "DMC" probably makes better "transitional" sense between the sound of "Help!" and RS.

Another fun detail with UK and North America "Rubber Soul" versions: Typeface color on the cover. (At least you'd know which version you have). (Britain "official" on left).
