Welcome back to On That Note, a music series presented by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500 (that’s me!)

A playful topic this week. We explore music by bands that have been (or perhaps still are) mistakenly thought to be a person (or solo artist with backup group).

One rule: You must go beyond simple name-dropping and post clips of songs you admire by the group cited.

You are allowed to use a band already mentioned (but must choose a different song).

So, I guess that’s two rules, Heh!

There could be more examples than immediately come to mind, and some surpasses to some of us. We shall find out! Have a blast!

Tommy Tutone

I’ll start here. Yes, the singer’s name is Tommy, but the core group is a duo of Tommy Heath and Jimmy James. (Original name was Tommy and the Tu-Tones).

I’ll post the big hit first, you may have heard it. :) I also include another track from the same album, which is a solid LP (although not a blockbuster).

Darius Rucker is not "Hootie"

Also, check out this music video: Sportscenter with Keith Olberman, Dan Patrick and Chris Berman? Special Appearance by Dan Marino? It's like opening up a time capsule to all things-90s.

Lynyrd Skynyrd. Sure they're too famous for the older people to know, but you wouldn't believe how many times I've had to educate the younger generations.

Love this song, one of their hits but slightly lesser known.

For some new music 'Portugal the Man'. Love that they aren't afraid to be different in each song.

More new music for you flower kids.

Miike Snow, I don't love all their music but I really enjoy their creativity. Plus this music video is great. They're out of Finland if I remember correctly.

And one of my all time favorite bands, Jethro Tull. Front man is Ian Anderson. Here's my current favorite songs, Hyme 43. The message is pretty timeless. People twisting religion for their own personal gain.

I'm not a huge fan of his music — er wait, I mean That Band's music! :) — I do like this tune from early in the discography. Interesting to hear how it fits closely with late-60s blues-rock compared to what became the signature prog-rock sound.
