"It's not about who you play, it's about HOW you play..."

Yeah, but the way you play tends to look a lot better when your competition is crap.

Cross-reference: UNLV.

Yep, we learned really nothing from the UNLV game except maybe ISU's defense really is good. What did UNLV have, 18 yards at half? That's hard to do in a Division 1 football game no matter who you're playing.

Here is the Baylor perspective on the game this Saturday...

That video reminded me of some of the conversations we used to have early in seasons during CPR years, trying to pump up some koolaid when there wasn’t substance actually there to support what we wanted to believe about the team.

Breaking down Baylor's rushing success.

Texas State - 238 yd; other opponents ave 107.5 yd/g (+130.5yd - 221%)
Texas Southern - 419 yd; other opponents ave 132 yd/g (+287yd - 317%)
Kansas - 307 yd; other opponents ave 184.5 yd/g (+122.5yd - 166%)
average 234.67% of other opponents

ISU rush D - 50.7 yd/g
234.67% = 119 yd
166% = 84.2 yd

This really means nothing but gives the numbers some perspective.

This is a game that worries me. Sure, Baylor's played bad teams and yes, I think our defense is very good to elite... but

A) Its not like we have played any offensive power houses. Something Campbell even kind of said. Do I think the defense will keep us in every game and give us a chance to win every game? yes. Do I think its easily one of the top 10-15 defenses in the nation when the season is said and done? Yes, barring massive injuries. But just like Baylor's offensive is probably a product to some degree of who they have played defensively , I think the same could be true to an extent of the offenses we have played thus far.

I don't think Baylor will run all over us at all but at the same time - I do think that they are easily the best offense we will have played too date and I think the best test for our defense.

Now I like our chances because I do think that at least so far, its clear that the defense is the better unit on our team, at lest in terms of to date production.

My concerns for the game are based on the offense... if Baylor hits a couple explosive plays which someone will at some point in all likelihood - is our offense capable of scoring 28+ points against Baylor if we have to? IDK. As of now I have concerns regarding Iowa State's offensive line and its ability to move people off the LOS not named UNLV.

Hope so... I like X a lot and he's easily our best receiver, and Charlies awesome but I do think Brock needs to try to spread it around a little more. Obviously certain plays are designed to go to certain players at times based on routes.

But I am confused as to why Milton hasn't been used more? Unless he's still hampered? Because he has been an explosive player in the past and getting him involved more would help a lot, in theory at least. I guess he has 6 catches but...

IDK. I feel like getting him or Scates or Noel or someone more involved early would be good. maybe its Shaw. Or differs week to week. But I think sometimes we focus too much on those two, and yes, they are really, really , really good and getting your best players the ball is always a good thing.

But so is balance.

Right now I think its

Iowa State 24
Baylor 23

I am expecting a close game but ISU will come away with the win. Don't think Baylor's offense can do enough against the ISU D.

Agreed... I'll take winning 10-6 but I don't know how likely that is.

But I also have to admit... I'm troubled by the offensive line. They were very good last year - maybe not elite but still good. And its not like they're terrible or anything but I guess I figured getting Trevor back, everyone else coming back with more depth...

I never thought we'd beat UNI by 30. Or shove Iowa around on the field or anything like that. Both programs are far too well coached and too sound defensively to allow for that.

But even against UNLV - the rushing attack was better, yes. But still didn't quite have last years feel to it. I don't know if its guys being dinged up, maybe losing Dylan hurts more than I thought it would but its been a tad off it seems

I agree with a lot of this. We can't panic when Baylor breaks off a couple big plays because it will happen. Hold them to field goals. Take some punches. And then grind them in the 2nd half, maybe frustrate their QB into a mistake. I feel better about our special teams, but Dunn will also have to do his part. I don't know what to expect from our offense, but I'm confident we'll find just as much space as Baylor.

You guys are funny. You think baylor is going to to score that many points on our defense? We have one of the best defenses in the country. Baylor isn't going to score more than 13 against us and that's being generous.
You could be right...
UNI scored 10
Hoks scored 7 (turnovers added 20)
UNLV scored 3

Baylor scoring into the 20's seems unlikely.
