21 y/o Oklahoma State JUCO transfer, Tyrek Coger collapsed after a team workout today. Pronounced dead at local hospital.

Sucks to hear. More heartbreak for the Cowboys.

Awful news. I wonder what the cause of death was. Stories like this probably have guys like Chris Bosh rethinking continuing to play basketball when doctors say he could lose his life over it.

He had an enlarged heart. It had nothing to do with the heat, evidently. He shouldn't have been playing basketball at all. When in high school, he suffered migraines and had ops to take fluid off his brain. Amazing that he passed oSu physical.

There have been many of these deaths over the years, Hank Gathers being perhaps the most notable. K-State lost a football player some years ago to the same heart problem.

I wonder when or how hard it is to check athletes at least once for this condition. I think that all they would have to do is a simple ultrasound that is non-invasive and shouldn't cost too much.
