1. Darien
2. He signed his LOI and therefore isn't one of the unfilled scholarships. He doesn't apply.

With that said, I can't really answer the question either. Russell Woods is the only community college name I've seen on an interest list recently. No offer from ISU.

Every time Sean Haluska would miss a shot in a Cyclone uni, I would comment, "The last time I saw Haluska make a shot he was playing against the Cubbies." It was funny once, maybe twice.

Sean seemed to even have problems hitting open shots, which didn't make since to me. In High School that dude would drain every damn shot. Remember seeing him put up 30+ points multiple times against my former high school.

I think him leaving Washington has a lot to do with the state of their program. They started the season 11-0 including wins over Oklahoma and San Diego State. I believe they were in the top 25 at that point. Then the wheels just fell off. they went 5-16 the remainder of the season and finished 16-15. There are rumblings if that kind of season happens again the coaching staff is out. So I think Otz was getting out while he can, and we are a perfect fit for him. He was pretty much our game coach the last couple seasons he was here. I am excited to see him back on the sidelines.

If I remember correctly, they had to kick their best player off the team in the middle of the year, so that's probably why they started struggling

So Brackins and some 3* guys? Those are solid players but its not like he is landing blue chip recruits or a caliber of player better than what we landed without him. The only difference is the guys he brought in didn't translate to any success on the court as a team. To me, this is a very humbling and underwhelming hire but Fred knows what hes doing. I just dont' get the rep he has a great recruiter, when you look at it, the guys he brought in were the type of guys ISU has always gotten.

Silly post, Otzelberger was getting guys who could play but not in the system that McDermott wanted to run. The guys TJ recruits fit extremely well with the way Hoiberg runs ISU currently.

Remember back to pre-Hoiberg days? Recruiting anyone to ISU is a lot more difficult than it is right now. Hoiberg's almost immediate success was do in very large part to the guys TJ had brought into Ames.

He left for Washington to expand his resume, play for a good coach in Romar but the state of Washington's bball program is not good. They had high expectations and as was said the wheels fell off.

Part of the reason to leave IMO was TJ did not even get an opportunity to interview for the Drake job a couple of years ago. That probably shook him up a little thinking that he needed to do something to make himself more marketable as he pursued a head coaching job!

Shame of it is ... he left just as the Hoiberg plane was taking off. I'm wondering if he would've stayed - could he have gotten a head job somewhere by now?

As is typical these days, the great feeling of re-landing Otz as an assistant is wearing off, and I find myself eagerly awaiting news on the filling of the open scholarships! I'm sure all 3 will be used with great additions, but the anticipation is ramping up! Diallo would be ideal, but should that not happen, I hope we snag a immediately eligible PF and 2 with eligibility in '16 and beyond. That is my amateur opinion. Obviously the staff will make the most appropriate moves to increase the odds of immediate and prolonged success.

From what I hear, we'll likely pick up 2 with immediate eligibility and 1 is reserved for Diallo and as a backup. I think you'll see some familiar names in the potential pipeline and it should pan out to be a good recruiting cycle. It'll be really nice to plug some much needed holes and provide depth in other areas. We have a strong team for next year, but not that much room for error, the recruits being talked about can definitely help us.

Any word on Dime? I know he was recruited by Otz. Any chance he comes here to ISU? That would be pretty bonerific if it does happen.

Interesting! Noskowiak is the first that comes to mind.

I keep seeing mixed answers. Some say he's already enrolled at Washington so transferring here with immediate eligibility would not possible (think McKay). Others say he isn't enrolled yet.

He was still playing in the JC tournament in March, but also saw a tweet posted from Washington saying he was now enrolled for their current quarter.

So I guess if they are on some quarter system, then it is possible he has just recently enrolled. I guess someone could do quick research, to see when their new quarters start.

McDermott's last year...

Garrett - Otz guy, played in the NBA
Staiger
Gilstrap
Brackins - Otz guy, played in the NBA, 1st round pick
Hamilton - Otz guy, longest NBA career of this list

...was mostly Otz's guys and some professional-level talent.

Fred took the scraps of that team (one returning starter and what was left of its bench)...

Garrett
Christopherson - Otz guy, best shooter in school history by %
Anderson
Ejim - Otz guy, eventual CPOTY
JVB

...and had a better season.

Put together McD/Otz talent with Fred coaching and scheme, and good things happen.

You have to wonder about the short-term effect on the Diallo recruitment of losing Matt A, what this does to the transfer market (we have a heck of a reputation there) as Matt A owned it, but this looks good news for our recruitment of "traditional" high school talent. Long-term, assuming the rest of the staff can cover transfers (again, reputation), this should be an upgrade, really.

You can say this might say things about Otz waiting as "coach in waiting" and what it means for Fred at ISU long-term, but those concerns are outside of this hiring itself. Glad to have him back.
